MLL: Myles Jones Wins All-Star Game for Team Stripes 21-20 in OT

(July 8, 2017) – Playing in the first All-Star Game of his career, Myles Jones scored the game-winning goal in overtime, helping Team Stripes beat Team Stars in the 16th MLL All-Star Game, 21-20, at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento. Jones was awarded a $10,000 prize check courtesy of New Balance for winning the MVP of the game. The Bayhawks midfielder led his team with four goals and finished with five points total (one assist). Team Stars held a 10-7 lead at the half thanks to five goals in the opening half from Ohio’s Marcus Holman. Matt Abbott’s goal for Team Stripes 12:09 into the fourth quarter tied the game 19, but it was followed by a Kyle Denhoff go-ahead goal less than a minute later for Team Stars. Connor Buczek, who won the Hardest Shot in the All-Star Skills Competition, scored another game-tying goal at the 14:24 mark to send the game to OT. It took Jones just 1:20 into the extra frame to cut straight down the middle of the field and score the winning goal from just left of the crease. PLAYERS OF NOTE Marcus Holman led all scorers with six points for Team Stars. The Machine attackman currently leads the league in points with 40 (28 goals, 12 assists). In the final All-Star Game of his career, Greg Gurenlian won 13 of his 22 faceoffs (59%) for Team Stripes. Will Manny had five points (3 goals, 2 assists) for Team Stripes. Tyler Fiorito made 11 saves total and six saves in the fourth quarter alone for Team Stripes.
