No. 1 Keiser’s Late Comeback Downs Warriors

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 16, 2023) – The Webber International University men’s lacrosse team traveled to the east coast to face No. 1 Keiser University for the final game of the regular season. The Warriors battled hard throughout the game but a late comeback effort by the Seahawks handed them defeat, 10-9.

It was quite an even match between the Warriors (14-2 overall, 6-2 AAC) and the Seahawks (12-1, 7-1), although Keiser held slight advantages in both shots on goal and total ground balls.

After trading blows throughout the first half and most of the third quarter, Webber scored twice to end the third period. First, a man-up goal by Jeremiah Loo gifted the Warriors the lead followed by an unassisted goal by Chase JacksonNick Sheaffer then netted the first goal of the final quarter of play less than 30 seconds in to extend the lead to three at 9-6.

Webber’s offense then went cold, however, as the Seahawks began slowly chipping away at the deficit. Keiser scored four unanswered goals over a seven and a half minute span, netting the go-ahead goal with just over three minutes left on the clock. The Warriors tirelessly searched for an equalizer but the Seahawk-defense held strong for the remainder of the game.

Both sides matched each other in the first half, pound for pound, as their were a total of three lead changes and four times the game was tied.

Offensively, Jackson netted three goals to tally his ninth hat-trick of the season. He was followed by Sheaffer and Blake Nelson who each scored two goals and recorded an assist as well. Loo finished with two points, a goal and an assist, while Christian Tapia contributed with a goal.

Alex Cordero spent all 60 minutes in the cage for the Warriors, making a total of 13 saves and leading the team in ground balls with six. Loo and Hunter Scott each followed with four ground balls each. Jordan ElamDane Fasano, and Austin Schepers led Webber’s defense as they all contributed with two caused turnovers each. Elam ended with three ground balls while Fasano added two.

The Warriors end the 2023 regular season with a program-record 14 wins. With a 6-2 record in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Webber currently sits in third-place and will now prepare for the conference tournament which will begin on Saturday, April 22nd.
