For the second time in less than a week, the No. 4 Keiser Seahawks topped the No. 7 Webber Warriors by one goal. However, this game meant just a little bit more as Keiser will now advance into the semiffinal of the AAC Tournament to face No. 6 Reinhardt.

First Quarter
Keiser 3, Webber 1

  • Webber jumped out to an early advantage in the game with a goal at the 12:06 mark.
  • Keiser would respond with back-to-back goals by Ryan Schwartz and Michael Shephard to take the 2-1 lead with 6:30 to play in the first.
  • Cole Stassi would give the Seahawks a 3-1 advantage going into the second quarter with a goal at the 2:29 mark.

Second Quarter
Keiser 4, Webber 2

  • Vincent Cerasuolo carried the momentum into the second quarter with his first goal of the night with 11:01 to play.
  • The Warriors would respond at the 8:54 mark to cut the lead down to 4-2 in favor of KU.
  • Webber would score again just before the half to make it a 4-3 game going into the break.
Third Quarter

Keiser 7, Webber 7

  • Stassi would kick off the scoring in the new half with a goal at the 12:34 mark to up the Keiser lead to 5-3.
  • 18 seconds after a Warriors goal, Cerasuolo would keep the KU advantage at two with 9:19 left in the third.
  • Webber would score nearly identical goals with Blake Nelson finding Houston Finlayson to tie the game at 6-6 with 2:41 showing.
  • Schwartz picked up his second goal to the Seahawks back ahead with 2:02 remaining, 7-6.
  • The Warriors would respond with a man-up goal with under a minute to play to make it a 7-7 game heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter

Keiser 9, Webber 8

  • Webber would score the opening goal of the fourth quarter with 14:15 on the clock to take their first lead since the 7:22 mark of the first quarter.
  • Cerasuolo tied the game at 8-8 with 10:19 still to play in the game and shift the momentum towards the Seahawks.
  • With 3:54 left in the contest, Stassi struck again to put Keiser ahead 9-8.
  • The Seahawks would continue to pressure followed by one final defensive stand to take the 9-8 victory over the Warriors.

KU Highlights

  • 1: KU picked up their first AAC Conference Tournament win as this is the first year that the Seahawks joined the conference.
  • 3: Cerasuolo and Stassi both registered hat tricks in the game for Keiser.
  • 4: Stassi led the team on the night with four points.
  • 5: Tyler Suckling-Ward led the Seahawks with five caused turnovers in the game. 
  • 12/17: Cam Provines was a menace all night, collecting a game-high 12 ground balls in addition to going 17-of-19 in the faceoff circle.
  • 16: Keiser picked up their 16th ranked win of the program’s history and the third of the season.
  • 105/163: Provines has now improved on last season’s records with 105 groundballs and 163 faceoff wins on the season.

No. 7 Warriors fall to No. 4 Keiser in opening round of conference tournament

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 16, 2022) – Under the lights in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Webber International University’s men’s lacrosse team lost the lead in the final quarter against the No. 4 Keiser University Seahawks (8-4 overall, 3-2 AAC), resulting in a tight 9-8 loss on Friday night.

The Warriors (11-6 overall, 3-4 AAC) kicked off the first quarter with a goal from Alexander Kew moments into the match. However, this would be the only goal they would score until the second quarter. The Seahawks responded to Kew’s goal scoring three back-to-back, ending the first quarter with a score of 3-1. Shortly into the second quarter Dave Becker would put one in the back of the cage for the Warriors and Daniel McClure would finish off the half by scoring, going into halftime with a score of 4-3. The Warriors kept the Seahawks to just one lone goal in the second quarter.

The third quarter would be back and forth for the Warriors and the Seahawks with goals from Becker and Houston Finlayson to even out the score with two back-to-back goals assisted by Blake Nelson. With the score at 6-6, the third quarter would end with another goal from both teams; 7-7. The final quarter of the match was looking promising as Finlayson would boost the Warriors ahead 8-7. However, the Seahawks would respond by netting two goals and holding off the Warriors to advance to the next round.

The Warriors offense was led by Finlayson with all three shots he took resulting in goals. Becker would trail behind with his two shots resulting in goals. Jordan Elam would lead in ground balls with four and Hunter ScottAustin Schepers, and Harold Pallone III following with two. Pallone III would lead the Warriors in caused turnovers with three while Mark Valentino and Cade Bullard would finish with two apiece.
