Hayley Frew’s Game-Winner Lifts No. 8 Women’s Lacrosse Over No. 5 Life in Overtime 11-10

Hayley Frew delivered the golden goal in overtime of No. 8 women’s lacrosse’s win over No. 5 Life on Saturday afternoon in Marietta, Ga. The Running Eagles scored three goals in the final four minutes of regulation to force overtime, but the Seahawks would remain focused, as Madison Andrews found Frew who tallied her fourth goal of the game to give Keiser the 11-10 win. Andrews led all players with four assists on the day while Margaret Wroe had another phenomenal day in net, making 15 saves.

First Quarter
Keiser 4, Life 2

  • Hayley Frew snagged a pass out of the air from Madison Andrews before firing it into the net to give Keiser the early lead.
  • The Seahawks would continue the momentum as MacKenzie Gibaud drew a double team before dishing it off to Chloe Foley for a 2-0 lead with 10:47 on the clock.
  • On the ensuing draw, Milena Isturiz scooped it up and ran straight to the net, making it 3-0 KU and forcing a timeout for the Running Eagles. 
  • Life would find the back of the net for the first time of the day on a free-position shot from Anslee Warchol with 3:18 on the clock.
  • The Running Eagles would score again with one minute left in the first, but Samantha Esher would get the goal back on the ensuing possession to make it 4-2 going into the second.

Second Quarter
Keiser 7, Life 6

  • Foley was awarded a free-position chance early in the second, but found a cutting Esher who buried her second goal of the game.
  • The Running Eagles were able to convert on a free-position attempt to cut into the lead with 10:39 showing.
  • Just over a minute later, Foley took advantage of a two-woman up chance, firing a shot into the net to make it 6-3.
  • Life was once again quick to counter to bring the score to 6-4 with 8:53 remaining.
  • With 5:04 on the clock, Andrews found Frew who turned and rocketed a shot by the keeper to make it 7-4.
  • Life would get two goals back before the half with the Seahawks still leading 7-6.
Third Quarter

Keiser 9, Life 7

  • Life tied the game 40 seconds into the second half as Alyssa Curto recorded her third of the game.
  • Isturiz scored shortly after to put the Seahawks back in front by one, 8-7.
  • Less than a minute later, Frew completed her hat trick after Andrews found her alone cutting to the net.
  • That would be the last goal of the quarter as both defenses locked in for the remainder of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter

Keiser 10, Life 10

  • The two sides would go scoreless through the first eight minutes with both keepers tallying saves.
  • Foley would find an opening in the defense after beating her defender and whip a shot into the far netting to make it 10-7.
  • Life managed to find two goals in the next three minutes to cut the lead to one with 2:55 on the clock.
  • Nicole Ortiz finished her hat trick and tied the game at 10-10 for the Running Eagles with 2:15 still to play.
  • Both teams would have a chance in the remaining two minutes but with no goals, they headed to overtime with the score locked at 10-10.
Overtime

Keiser 11, Life 10

  • Neither team was able to break through in the first half of overtime with the Seahawks pressuring with four shots.
  • 36 seconds into the second half of overtime, Andrews found Frew who sank the game-winner.

Game Notes

  • Keiser moves to 7-5 with the win.
  • The Seahawks are now 1-1 in the Sun Conference.
  • KU improves to 4-1 on the road this season.
  • Frew led all players with four goals including the game-winner.
  • Andrews recorded the final assist along with three others to lead Keiser.
  • Foley, Emily McCall, and Sydney Parker all recorded three groundballs on the day.
  • Foley also led the team with five caused turnovers.
  • Frew started a lot of the possessions for Keiser with six draw controls on the day.
  • Margaret Wroe was a wall in net with 15 saves on the day.
