Record-Setting Day Propels Tampa Women Past Lenoir-Rhyne 26-3

HICKORY, N.C. – Record-setting day as Tampa notches first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior, Cece Colombo tallied Tampa’s first goal of the season just over a minute into the contest off of a free position. The Spartans tallied the game’s first four goals until Lenoir-Rhyne answered off a goal by Kaitlyn Cavanuagh. After a second unanswered goal from the Bears, the Spartans would go on a 9-0 run to lead 13-2 midway through the second period. Peyton Howell and Sarah Hinkle would score the two final goals in the period to increase the Spartan’s lead to 15-3. The Spartans would score the final 11 goals of the game and would see 10 different players get on the score sheet throughout the game.

Stat of the Game – Tampa sets a new program record for goals in a single game (26).

TAMPA POST-GAME NOTES 

  • Four Spartans recorded hat tricks – Peyton Howell (5), Sarah Hinkle (5), Cece Colombo (4), and Sophi Wrisk (3).
  • Tampa scored 26 goals for the first time in program history, surpassing its previous total of 25.
  • Tied the program record for shots in a single game with 49.
  • Coach Kelly Gallagher picked up her 92 career win.
