SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men’s lacrosse team released its 2023 schedule to the public Tuesday afternoon, featuring a 16-game slate highlighted by contests against a national semifinalist and the defending national champions.
“This challenging slate of games will be a great test of our young squad” said Head Coach Brad Jorgensen.  “I look forward to seeing how our group reacts.”
This season, home games for the Lions are at a premium, as Saint Leo will host just seven contests at University Turf Stadium, having back-to-back home games only twice in 2023.  The Green & Gold’s schedule also features eight night games and one morning contest.
Saint Leo will open the season at home February 11th against powerhouse Limestone, who fell one game shy of the National Championship last season.  The Lions then proceed on an early road trip to face a pair of Gulf South Conference opponents in Alabama Huntsville and Montevallo before heading the opposite direction the following weekend to face Palm Beach Atlantic in non-conference play.
The Lions begin its March portion with two games at home against Davis & Elkins and Young Harris followed by trips to Flagler and Shorter before concluding its non-conference schedule with a neutral site game against Tusculum in Atlanta, Ga.
After Tusculum, it is all Sunshine State Conference play for the Green & Gold, opening with Florida Tech and Palm Beach Atlantic at home in consecutive weekends.  The Lions next head to Florida Southern for a weeknight showdown before returning home to face Embry-Riddle (Fla.) April 8th.  Saint Leo concludes its road schedule with trips to defending national champion Tampa and Rollins before hosting Lynn in the season finale.
This year’s Sunshine State Conference tournament will be held April 27th and 30th, as the NCAA Tournament begins May 10th.  The NCAA DII National Championship is set for May 28th in Philadelphia, Pa.
“We are fortunate to play in a conference with so many challenges” continued Jorgensen.  “While we never avoid a tough game from outside of the SSC, we first and foremost measure ourselves in conference. I have full confidence that this team will attack every game with toughness and grit.”
