SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team starts season off in style with a massive 20-5 win over the Barton College Bulldogs on the road in Wilson, North Carolina.

“It’s always great to start the season with a win,” said Coach Caitlin Hansen. “It was an exciting game with so many players getting their first college minutes.”

The win kickstarts the season for the Lions as they are now officially 1-0 to start the 2023 season.

Things got started early for the Green & Gold as they went up 8-1 after the first quarter thanks to a pair of goals from Graduate Kealey Allison, Junior Eliz Fino, and Junior Fiona McLaughlin. Senior Ashlee Wilsynski and

Sophmore Delaney Gilchrist chipped in with one goal a piece as well in the first.

After a strong first quarter, the Lions did not hold back as the Bulldogs were outscored in every single quarter.

Hansen’s side was led in scoring by Mclaughlin who had four goals and also added on an assist.

Freshman Aubrie Dean led the team with three assists, but she also added in a goal of her own.

Aubrie Dean facilitated well at X and kickstarted her college career with three assists,” said Hansen.

“There’s a lot to be excited about for the team and hopefully starts us off on a path to success as we have little time to prepare before we have to take Mount Olive tomorrow in another regional matchup,” said Hansen.

Up next, the Lions will be tested on the road against the University of Mount Olive Trojans who were 6-1 at home last season. The game will be on February 10th at 3pm.
