Caroline Gastonguay racked up 10 points in Saturday’s win

GAFFNEY, S.C. (February 11, 2023) – The 10th-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team fell behind early but finished the game on a 10-1 run to leave Limestone with a 13-8 victory. The win pushes the Tars to 2-0 on the young season, while the Saints fall to 1-1.

Caroline Gastonguay finished with four goals and six assists to go along with six ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Charlotte Gastonguay tallied three goals, one ground ball, and two caused turnovers. Anya Studebaker (1-0) earned the win in goal, making three saves on six shots against in 30 minutes of action. 

Sarah Dudick scored three goals and picked up two ground balls for the Saints, while Rylee Johnson chipped in a goal and two assists. Madelyn DeSoto (1-1) took the loss in goal, registering 10 saves on 23 shots faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • After the Saints tallied the opening goal, Caroline Gastonguay got the Tars on the board to tie things up with 10:42 to go in the first quarter.
  • Limestone scored the next three goals to take a 4-1 lead to the second.

Second Quarter

  • The Saints scored 34 seconds into the period, increasing their lead to 5-1.
  • Delanie Aberie scored at the 6:46 mark and Charlotte Gastonguay found the net with less than a minute to go, trimming the deficit to 5-3 at the half.

Third Quarter

  • Limestone scored two quick goals in the third to build its advantage to 7-3.
  • Caraoline Gastonguay’s second goal at the 11:35 mark proved to be the start of seven straight goals for the Tars to finish the quarter.
  • Abigail Cawley tallied the next goal, with Caroline Gastonguay following with two more goals just nine second apart, tying the game at 7-7 with 9:03 on the clock.
  • Holyn Trautwein netted the next two markers, with Charlotte Gastonguay capping the period with the Tars’ 10th goal, giving Rollins a 10-7 lead heading to the final 15 minutes.

Fourth Quarter

UP NEXT:
The Tars will host No. 5 Grand Valley State in the 2023 home opener on Saturday, Feb. 18, with the contest set for a 10 a.m. start.
