Noteworthy events during game

After their double overtime victory over Plant on Monday night, Jupiter returned to the field on Tuesday at Wellington for a showdown between the district’s top teams. Wellington was looking to keep their 8-0 record intact as they hosted the defending state champs on their recently upgraded turf field and new lighting (which is great to take action pictures.)

Jupiter got off to an early lead thanks to Bashaw’s 2 goals. But Wellington’s physical play allowed them to tie the score by the end of the first behind goals from Iannone and a man-up goal by Romano getting the feed from Ryan Anthony. Jupiter’s defense tightened things up in the second quarter while the offense continued to improve behind goals from Silver, Meza, Kelly, and Bashaw to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw Wellington make a push with 2 goals from Perry, 2 goals from Anthony, and a behind-the-back goal from Kaminski. By the end of the third, Wellington cut the lead to one goal, 8-7. However, Jupiter’s constant offensive pressure, starting with Alex Mitchell’s success at faceoffs (.680 win %) and gathering 11 ground balls, was too much for Wellington to overcome. Hasner led Jupiter’s scoring in the fourth with 2 goals along with Meyers and Sluszka.
