Tars Best Fighting Knights

Rollins overcame a slow start by scoring seven straight goals between the second and third period, to pull away from Lynn, on a windy day at Barker Family Stadium

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 10, 2022) – Rollins overcame a slow start by scoring seven straight goals between the second and third period, to pull away from Lynn, on a windy day at Barker Family Stadium.  The No. 11 Tars improve to 10-1 overall, and 3-1 in Sunshine State Conference contests, with the 13-9 victory.  Lynn falls to 3-9, while the Fighting Knights drop to 1-3 in SSC action.

The Tars got hat tricks from Bailey PringleMarshall Ellison, and Finn Jent.  Ellison and Jent both added an assist for a team high four points.  Justin White tallied a pair of scores.  Jack Johnstone dished out two assists to lead the squad.  Tomas Garvin went 14-24 at the faceoff dot.  Patrick Thomas made 11 saves, playing the full 60 minutes in goal for the Tars.



Matthew Ilchuck, Connor Houston, and Caleb Wells each scored twice for the Fighting Knights.   Colin Casey played the full game in between the pipes for Lynn, making 11 stops.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Lynn got on the board first, but Marshall Ellison found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1, in a back forth first quarter.
  • The Fighting Knights would regain the lead, but Justin White took a pass from Finn Jent and stung the top corner of the goal, with just nine seconds remaining in the quarter, to pull the teams level at 2-2.

Second Quarter

  • Benjamin Kopen found Ellison on the fast break, as Rollins tallied first in the second quarter, to take their first lead of the game.
  • Lynn then tore off three straight goals, making the game 5-3 at the halfway point of the second frame.
  • The Tars then went on a three goal run of their own to end the quarter.  Bailey Pringle started the run with his first goal.
  • Jent then equalized, before Connor Coltharp gave Rollins a one goal lead heading into the halftime break.

Third Quarter

  • Justin White scorched another corner as he put Rollins up 7-5, starting a four goal run for the Tars coming out of the locker room.
  • Zane Williams found Ian Dean, who beat the goalie low, before Ellison and Pringle each net extra man goals to make the score 10-5.
  • Lynn would manage the final goal of the quarter, sending the game into the final stanza at 10-6.

Fourth Quarter

  • The Fighting Knights opened the fourth quarter with a pair of scores, cutting the Rollins advantage to 10-8.
  • Jent stopped the run, dodging past his defender and firing a shot just inside the pipe.
  • After Lynn tallied with 8:35 on the clock, the Tars defense locked down for the rest of the game, not allowing the Fighting Knights to get any closer.
  • Pringle and Jent each added an insurance goal, as the Tars pulled away down the stretch.

UP NEXT:
The Tars will head to Lakeland to take on the No. 12 Florida Southern Mocs.  Faceoff is set for Wednesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Fighting Knights lose to No. 11 Rollins

Winter Park, Florida – Coming off of a close game vs Florida Tech, the Fighting Knights traveled to Winter Park to face No. 11 Rollins College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Fighting Knights struck first tonight. Matthew Ilchuk scored for Lynn just 1:58 into the game.
  • After Rollins tied it up, Caleb Wells scored for Lynn from Colby Keefe with 3:24 to go in the first quarter.
  • Before the quarter would end, Rollins tied it up again and then scored first in the second to go up 3-2.
  • Just :45 seconds later, Connor Houston would tie it up for the Fighting Knights.
  • The Fighting Knights added two more goals in a row. First, Thomas Murray scored to take the lead back and then Keefe would add a goal of his own.
  • Rollins added three more goals before the end of the first half to go up 6-5.
  • Coming out of the half, the Tars would score four more goals, leading 10-5.
  • Ilchuk scored again for the Fighting Knights on the man-up from Tyler Hopkins to be be within four.
  • The Fighting Knights scored two more goals to start the fourth quarter. Houston scored his second just over two minutes in and then Wells scored again from Tommy Ruddo to be down 10-8.
  • Just after Rollins scored again to go up 11-8, Xander Cosenza got on the score sheet to put the Fighting Knights within two.
  • Rollins scored two more goals before the end of the game to win 13-9.
  • Wells, Houston, and Ilchuk led the Fighting Knights with two goals each.
  • Keefe had a goal and an assist.
  • Cosenza and Murray both had one goal.
  • Ruddo and Hopkins both had an assist.
  • Colin Casey had ten saves on 23 shots.
