Fighting Knights beat Sailfish 10-5; Wells scores five

Boca Raton, Florida – After a close game vs Embry-Riddle, the Fighting Knights came to play vs Palm Beach Atlantic. An incredible five goal game from Caleb Wells and a stellar performance in net from Colin Casey saw the Fighting Knights take home a 10-5 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After the Sailfish struck first, the Fighting Knights tacked on three straight goals.
  • Jalen Stanton scored first with Lynn almost three minutes into the quarter to tie the game.
  • Following Staton’s goal, Wells scored two in a row to put Lynn ahead 3-1. Matthew Ilchuk assisted on the first goal and Tommy Ruddo had the assist on the second.
  • PBA would score two of their own, but the Fighting Knights battled back with three more goals before the end of the half.
  • Wells scored again for the hat trick from Ilchuck on the man up with 7:42 to go in the first half.
  • Ilchuk had a goal of his own just ten seconds later from Ethan McKinley.
  • The last goal of the first half for Lynn came from Stanton with 5:34 left. Fighting Knights leading 6-3 at half.
  • Xander Cosenza got on the scoreboard for Lynn almost six minutes into the half, unassisted.
  • After a goal from PBA, Joseph Michalski scored to put Lynn up 8-4 from Ilchuk.
  • Wells scored again from Cosenza on the man-up with just under a minute left in the third quarter.
  • Wells scored his fifth and final goal from Jake Richter with 4:58 left in the second half for the Fighting Knights to win 10-5.
  • Wells led the Fighting Knights with five goals.
  • Ilchuck had a goal and three assists.
  • Stanton had two goals for Lynn.
  • Cosenza had a goal and an assist.
  • Casey had 15 saves on 20 shots.

Sailfish Drop Game In Boca 10-5

BOCA RATON, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights 10-5 on Wednesday. The Sailfish dropped to 4-7 on the season. 

Henry Sloyan led the ‘Fish with two goals while Ben JusticeHunter Hopman, and Joshua Turner each scored one. Noah McKoeun displayed a dominant performance at the faceoff x. McKoeun took 11/18 faceoffs with eight groundballs. 

Sloyan scored his 20th goal of the season at 12:57 in the first quarter. Sloyan picked up a groundball and took it himself. The Fighting Knights answered back with a 3-0 run of their own. At 12:11 in the second quarter, Sloyan assisted PBA freshman Joshua Turner to cut the deficit to 3-2. Turner has notched five goals this season. At 9:23 Hopman connected with Justice around the goal. Justice tied the game at 3-3 with his 15th goal of the season. 

Lynn responded with a 4-0 run to lead 7-3 as PBA experienced a scoring drought. With 6:36 in the third quarter, it was Turner’s turn to assist as he found Hopman for Hopman’s lone goal of the game. Hopman is second on the team in goals with 19 this season. PBA’s fifth and final goal came from Sloyan at 14:16 in the fourth quarter. Sloyan is the team leader in goals this season with 21. PBA defensively held Lynn to one goal in the fourth quarter as 10-5 was the final score. 

PBA picked up 12 more groundballs than the Fighting Knights but committed six more turnovers. 

Ben Lightsey started in net for the ‘Fish and recorded 15 saves. 

The Sailfish host Embry-Riddle on Saturday, Apr. 16.
