Men’s Lacrosse Win in Dominant Scoring Performance Versus Palm Beach Atlantic 23-8

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s lacrosse team achieves first win of the season versus SSC opponent Palm Beach Atlantic in dominant fashion 23-8.

The Lions now move to 1-3 after win. Despite playing Palm Beach Atlantic, this was not an SSC matchup.

In the first quarter, Greg Palmer was first to strike for the Lions within 3 minutes of the start of the game.

The rest of the quarter saw Saint Leo dominate on offense taking a 9-2 lead and set up the momentum for the rest of the game.

In the second quarter, John Raucci kick starting yet another quarter of scoring for the Lions as they took a 13-4 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Lions’ Adem Tekman scored the 14th Saint Leo goal and the first of the second half.

The Lions went on to take an 18-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lions took care of business in the fourth with Palmer once again showing up and kicking action off for the Lions with their first of five goals in the fourth.

The final score sees the Lions win 23-8.

Greg Palmer led the scoring for the Green & Gold with six goals while also tacking on four assists as well. Palmer’s performance puts him in strong contention for a SSC weekly award slot.

Michael Flores dominated winning 15 of 19 face offs throughout the game with 10 ground balls.

The Lions win is also given to Chase Strait for his first of the season. Strait finished the game with nine saves.

Up next, the Lions will be back at home at the University Turf Stadium to face off against Davis & Elkins on March 5th. Face-off is scheduled for 7pm.

Men’s Lacrosse Downed By Lions

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team faced the Saint Leo Lions for the first of two matchups this season. The Sailfish fell 23-8. Caleb Southard notched a hat trick for the ‘Fish and Henry Sloyan scored two goals with one assist. 

The Lions maintained a majority of the possession throughout the game due to the faceoff battle. SLU won 23 faceoffs while the Sailfish took 11. Additionally, the Lions picked up 38 ground balls to PBA’s 34. The Sailfish committed two fewer turnovers than the Lions. 

Sarver Adams got the ‘Fish on the board at the 10:05 mark in the first quarter. Adams called his own number, ran through the Lions’ defense, and found the back of the net. The freshman has scored two goals this season. Hunter Lizza connected with Southard later in the quarter for PBA’s second goal. Sloyan produced offensively in the second quarter. Sloyan scored both of his goals in the second quarter which brought his season total to six and his career total to 65. Sloyan and Neil Calkin are tied for the team lead in goals this season. 

In the second half, the ‘Fish tacked on four more goals. With 13:12 left in the third quarter Calkin found Southard inside for his second assist of the year. With just under three minutes left in the third quarter, PBA capitalized on a man-up opportunity. Cooper Porter passed to Southard for his third assist this year. Southard has scored five goals this season. With 10 seconds left in the quarter, Sloyan connected with Dylan Insolia. Insolia ripped a time and room shot for his fourth goal of the year. With 4:20 left in the fourth quarter, Lizza took it himself and found the back of the net for PBA’s final goal of the game. The score marked Lizza’s first goal of the season. 

Defensively, Dylan Hunt caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Aiden Spiller caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Hunter Sheffield caused two turnovers and led the Sailfish defensive unit in ground balls with six. These two teams will meet again for an SSC game on Saturday, Apr. 1 in Saint Leo. 

Next, the Sailfish will host Barton on Saturday, Mar. 4.
