Ninesling Leads No. 14 Women’s Lacrosse Past Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team bounced back from a pair of one-goal losses for a 17-11 Sunshine State Conference win against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday. After trailing early in the contest, the Eagles erupted for six goals in the fourth quarter to improve to 12-2 overall and 2-2 in the SSC.

Elizabeth Ninesling achieved a milestone in Wednesday’s game as she recorded her 100th career point with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. She also had eight draws, eight ground balls and six caused turnovers to lead the Eagles. Murphy McDonoughSallie Squire and Callison Foreman had three goals apiece, while Aliza Garofala added two goals.

Olivia Haven entered the game at the half and picked up the win in just her third collegiate appearance, collecting five saves on the evening.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the day, but it was the Sailfish who dominated the offense in the first 15 minutes of action. Two goals each by Megan Jackson and Kiki Cinotti staked Palm Beach Atlantic to a 7-3 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Eagle offense came to life in the second frame as the Blue and Gold outscored the Sailfish 5-1. ERAU had four different scorers in the period, including a pair by Squire. The Eagle defense limited the Sailfish to just three shots, with their lone goal coming on a free position shot, and at the half, the score was tied at 8-8.

Coming out of the break, the Sailfish reclaimed the lead on another free position goal at the 13:14 mark. Five minutes later, Aliza Garofalo received the ball with her back to goal and her over-the-shoulder, no-look shot knotted the score (9-9) once again.

From that point, Embry-Riddle took over. After Squire and Foreman scored a goal each to end the third quarter, the Eagles showed why they are one of the top offensive teams in the league with six goals in the final frame.

McDonough scored the first goal of the quarter off the feed from Foreman and returned the favor on Foreman’s goal that put the Eagles up 13-9 less than 30 seconds later. Midway through fourth, the Eagles rattled off four goals in less than 90 seconds to go up 17-9 with Ninesling figuring in all four tallies with two goals and two assists.

The Sailfish managed two goals late, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Eagles from earning their second conference win of the year.

Courtney Rausch had a career game in goal for PBA with 17 saves as the Sailfish now stand at 2-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The Eagles face a tough test at home on Friday when they host ninth-ranked Florida Southern at the ERAU Lacrosse Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.

No. 14 Ranked Eagles Pull Away From Sailfish In Fourth Quarter

by Brad Seitz, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team returned home to host Embry-Riddle tonight. The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead and gave the No. 14 ranked Eagles a scare before succumbing to a fourth-quarter run as ERAU won 17-11.

The Eagles scored the opening goal of the game, just over two minutes in but the Sailfish had the upper hand for the rest of the first quarter. Megan Jackson had the answer at the 11-minute mark to tie the game and then Hunter Levinson found the back of the net to give the ‘Fish the lead. It was a balanced opening quarter attack for the Sailfish as five different attackers combined to score seven goals. Sara Metheny and Anna Laskaris put PBA up 4-2 before Jackson scored her second goal of the game with four minutes left in the first. Kiki Cinotti put her fingerprints on the game as she scored two straight to end the quarter as the ‘Fish led 7-3.

The Eagles jumped back in the second quarter as they tied the game within three minutes. Cinotti got her hat-trick as she scored the lone Sailfish goal in the quarter as the score was tied 8-8 at the half. After winning the 6-of-11 draw controls in the first the ‘Fish began to struggle to gain possession.

Laskaris scored again early in the second half to give the ‘Fish a one-goal lead, but their offense went stagnant as scored the next three goals of the game to lead 11-9 after three-quarters of play. PBA leaned heavily on goalie Courtney Rausch who was fantastic throughout the game, making a school-record 17 saves to keep the Sailfish in the contest.

The Eagles showed why they are the No. 14 ranked team in the country in the second half as they continued their offensive firepower in the fourth quarter. They scored the first six goals to go up 17-9 before Metheny and Cinotti scored late to make the final score 17-11. PBA was outshot 50-25 as they faded late in the final quarter of play and were only able to capture two draw controls in the second half. Rausch and Katie Caras who picked up five ground balls led the way defensively while Cinotti’s four goals and one assist led the offense. Jackson, Laskaris, and Metheny were all able to add two goals each as the Sailfish played arguably their best half of the season in the opening half of play.

The Sailfish will look to build on the bright spots of play they showed tonight as they hit the road on Saturday to face Saint Leo. The Lions are 5-9 on the season and 2-2 in SSC play so far this season.
