Sailfish Go Down to Panthers on the Road

by Brad Seitz, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team took the trip north to face off with Florida Tech. The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter and held on throughout to claim the 15-4 victory.

The Sailfish struggled to gain possession early on as the Panthers came out on top in the draw control battle, winning the first six of the game. They turned that possession advantage into an 11-3 shot advantage in the opening quarter. Florida Tech scored on five of those shots while PBA’s two shots on goal were saved as the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 first-quarter lead.

The offense arrived for the ‘Fish in the second quarter as Ella Howlin found the back of the net at the 12:26 mark in the second quarter. Sara Metheny found a cutting Kiki Cinotti off a free-position attempt and Cinotti was able to put home her seventh goal of the season. PBA looked like they had cut the deficit to two goals but the third goal was overturned for a stick violation. From that point on, the momentum stalled as the Panthers scored the next three goals to lead 8-2 at the half.

Florida Tech opened the second half the same way they started the first as they outscored PBA 5-0 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach for good. PBA was outshot 31-21 in the game as goalie Courtney Rausch was able to make some big saves early, but was under too much pressure throughout the game as she finished with seven saves. The Sailfish would two goals in the fourth Megan Jackson found the back of the net and Cinotti scored her second. Mattie Davis led the ‘Fish with four draw controls as PBA had the upper hand excluding the opening quarter of play.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Sailfish in their next game as they head to face Tampa on Saturday. The Spartans enter the game with a 5-5 record but are ranked the No. 15 team in the country.
