St Thomas Alum Trace McDonald named PBC Player of the Year, Jupiter’s Tyler Douglass Joins him on 1st Team!

McDonald Named PBC Player of the Year and Headlines Five Saints on All-PBC teams
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College sophomore Trace McDonald was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year, presented by College Ave. Student Loans, and he was one of five players selected to the All-PBC men’s lacrosse teams, according to a release this afternoon from conference officials.
Joining McDonald on the first team were Blake Gonzalez and Tyler Douglass. Brandon Grusholt and Matt Mitrega earned second team honors.
McDonald, a sophomore attacker, earned his second first-team all-conference award. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native leads the team in points with 65 as he has scored 30 goals and tallied 35 assists, both team highs. McDonald was named the PBC Player of the week twice (Feb. 19 and March 25). He leads the conference in points per game (4.64), and is second in assists per game (2.50), and eighth in goals per game (2.14). McDonald was selected to the USILA/Blatant D2 Team of the Week on March 28.
Gonzalez, a junior defender, has 36 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers. The Bel Air, Maryland native is fourth in the PBC in caused turnovers per game (1.23) and ninth in groundballs per game (2.77). Gonzalez was selected to the USILA/Blatant D2 Team of the Week on Feb. 14.
Douglass, a junior midfielder, picked up his second all-conference honor. He has netted 24 goals and tallied eight assists. The Jupiter, Florida native has scooped up 17 ground balls.
Grusholt, a junior defender, has 24 groundballs and nine caused turnovers in 14 starts.
Mitrega, a junior faceoff, has won 145 faceoffs this year and has a team-high 76 groundballs. The Bel Air, Maryland native has scored two goals and has four caused turnovers. Mitrega was selected to the USILA/Blatant D2 Team of the Week on Feb. 14.
Flagler is at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which begins tomorrow as it takes on the University of Montevallo in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. (Central) at Montevallo, Alabama.
