Stetson Lacrosse Falls Just Short to Iona

Stetson Hatters Lacrosse fell to Iona 16-17 Saturday afternoon in DeLand. 
 
The Gaels started off the scoring in the first period, but the Hatters quickly rallied back with a goal from Sam King. Twenty seconds later Jordyn Humphrey found the back of the net to give Stetson a 2-1 lead. Iona answered back with two goals of their own. Molly Kearney tied the game back up at three with 8:24 left to play in the quarter. The Gaels closed out the end of the first period with two goals to take a 3-5 lead. 
 
The Hatters scored five straight goals in the second period. Kaitlin Pani scored a man up followed by back-to-back goals from Anya Phillips. Pani then scored her second goal of the game and Georgia Goering finished the scoring in the second for the Hatters. The Gaels got one back with 35 seconds left however Humphrey answered 20 seconds later to give Stetson a 9-6 halftime lead. 
 
Phillips completed her hat trick to start the scoring in the third period, but Iona tallied six unanswered goals. Kearney and King each tallied a goal before the end of the third to tie the game at 12. 
 
Humphrey and Kearney each completed their hat trick at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Gaels came back with four goals in a row. With the Hatters down two, Pani and King each scored to complete their hat tricks and tie the game at 16. Iona would score one before the end of the game and the Hatters fell 16-17. 
 
Five different players scored a hat trick for Stetson with Humphrey adding six assists to her three goals. 
 
The Hatters will look to bounce back when they host Gardner-Webb on Tuesday March 12. That game will start at noon at the Athletic Training Center.
