BOX SCORE

DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University lacrosse team had three hat tricks and used a six-goal second quarter to top Monmouth University 17-12 Wednesday afternoon at the ATC.

Wednesday’s game had a promising start for the Hatters (3-4) as only 55 seconds into the contest, Jessica Duggan netted the first goal of the game on an assist from Saige-Lyn Gidzinski. Shortly after, the Hawks (5-3) scored 4 goals in a row to take a 4-1 lead with 3:59 left in the 1st. In the final 2:38 of the quarter, the Hatters offense scored five times, highlighted by two goals from Maria Snee to give Stetson a 5-4 edge.

In the second, the Stetson offense continued to surge as the Hatters scored six more times while the defense held the Hawks to one goal before the break. Freshman Samantha Paglino had a hat trick by halftime while Jordyn Humprhey and Jacklyn Lavoie had two goals each.

After the break, Monmouth continued to try and keep the game close as the Hawks outscored the Hatters 4-3 in the third quarter. Then in the fourth, Monmouth made it a four-goal game with 14:15 left in regulation, but a late-game goal from Camden Frissora gave the Hatters a 5-score lead again. The Hawks would get within four once more but another Frissora goal put the contest out of reach and sealed the Stetson win.

Three Hatters finished with a hat trick as Paglino, Snee and Frissora all finished with three goals apiece while Lavoie, Humphrey, and Molly Kearney all finished with two goals.

Graduate student Kiera McCarthy played all 60:00 in goal for the Hatters as she made 11 saves and earned her third win on the year.

The Hatters will be back in action on Saturday, March 19 as Stetson hosts Gardner-Webb University. Game time is set for noon and will be streamed on the HatterVision YouTube channel.
