Stetson Hatters rout DSU to end six-game skid

DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University lacrosse team ended its six-game losing streak as the Hatters routed Delaware State 19-3 Tuesday night at the ATC. 

After Saturday’s loss to No. 15 Jacksonville, the Hatters (4-10, 1-3 ASUN) came out strong Tuesday night putting up six goals in the 1st quarter of action. Samantha Paglino led off the scoring barrage as the freshman scored her 27th of the year just 36 seconds into the game. Molly Kearney followed Paglino with a goal at the 12:31 mark to make it 2-0. All-in-all, six different Hatters scored in the opening quarter. Then in the 2nd, the Hatters added five more goals as Jordyn Humphrey scored twice for a hat trick and Maria Snee and Molly Kearney each scored their second goals to help give Stetson an 11-0 advantage headed to the break. 

After the intermission, Snee led off the 3rd with her third goal of the contest at the 13:32 mark to make it 12-0. After Stetson put up three more goals, Kearney scored her third for the Hatters third hat trick of the game and by the end of the 3rd, Stetson led 17-0. In the 4th, the Hornets got on the board and outscored the Hatters 3-2, but the game was out of reach for DSU and Stetson came away with the 19-3 win. 

Sydney Heimann recorded her second win of the year as the sophomore goalkeeper tallied five saves in eight chances. Mia Judd led the defense as the freshman scooped four ground balls and totaled four caused turnovers.

The Hatters will be back in action on Saturday, April 30 for Senior Day as Stetson takes on Coastal Carolina for the final regular season game. Game time is set for noon at the ATC.
