Stetson Lacrosse with Huge Comback Win over Duquesne

DeLand, Fla. – The Stetson lacrosse team earned its second at home victory of the 2023 season, Monday afternoon at the Athletic Training Center. The Hatters (2-2), went down 2-0 quickly in the first, but a goal from Jordyn Humphrey at the 6:53 mark brought life to the Hatter offense. With 2:29 left in the first quarter, Sam King netted a man-down goal with an assist from Humphrey. The Dukes ended the quarter with a man up free position goal, the score now 4-2.

The second quarter required the Hatters to put in some work. With 7:40 left in the second, SU was down 8-2. Within three minutes, the Hatter offense pounced on the Dukes seeing scores from Molly KearneyJordyn HumphreyKaitlin Pani, Humphrey again and Aine Williams, narrowing the score to 8-7 with 2:23 left in the quarter.

The third quarter consisted of hard fought back-to-back action. Katie Kornacki and Kaitlin Pani netted the first goals of the quarter, followed by goals from Sara Freeman (assisted by Jessica Duggan), Kornacki again and Camden Frissora (assisted from Sam King). The Dukes were up 13-12 by the end of the quarter, and the battle was on.

The fourth quarter started with an unstoppable Hatter offense. The beginning scores saw goals from Duggan, King, and two from Kornacki. Kornacki and King led the Hatter offense- Kornacki tabbed 4 and King with 3 for a hat trick. Stetson was able to see out the game with a final score of 16-14 over the Dukes.

The Hatters will look to continue their success as they take on UMass Lowell Sunday, March 5 at the Athletic Training Center.
