Lynn Rolls Past No. 8 Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Lynn University women’s lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the second quarter and carried that momentum to a 15-10 upset victory of No. 8 Flagler, Saturday afternoon.
 
The win is the seventh-straight for the Fighting Knights as they improve to 8-1 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– Lynn outshot Flagler 32-18 and scored their 15 goals on just 26 shots on goal
– Lynn finished 18-of-19 on clear attempts and posted 19 draw controls
– The two teams traded goals in the first quarter as the contest was tied at three after the first 15 minutes
– The Fighting Knights took control in the second frame with a 5-0 scoring run for an 8-3 with 8:27 to play in the half
– Sophomore Rebecca Clark scored twice during the outburst and freshman Catie O’Connor scored a woman-up goal at 8:27
– Graduate Elizabeth Tamasitis scored twice in the second to help Lynn build a 10-6 advantage at halftime
– Clark opened the third quarter with two goals as part of a 3-0 scoring run as Lynn led 13-6 midway through the third
– Sophomore Elizabeth Clagett scored late in the third (1:38) and again early in the fourth (13:59) for a 15-9 advantage
– The Saints closed the game with the final two goals
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
– Clark capped the afternoon with four goals, three ground balls and seven draw controls
– She was a perfect 3-for-3 on free position shots
– Tamasitis scored three times with two assists
– Senior Diane Dohler (2g), juniors Mallory Jarka (1g/1a) and Kristyn Johnson (1g/1a) and Clagett each finished with two points
– Dohler added three caused turnovers and five ground balls
– Sophomore Isabella Connelly added six draw controls
– Sophomore Callista Elica notched six saves to earn the win in net
– Lynn is outscoring its opponents by 11.4 goals during the current winning streak

No. 8 Flagler falls to No. 16 Lynn to end win streak

ST. AUGUSTINE- No. 8 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College suffered a 15-10 loss against No. 16 Lynn University this afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.

The Saints drop to 10-2 overall after eight wins in a row. The Fighting Knights advance to 8-1.

Lynn managed to pull away at the start of the second quarter with five consecutive goals. The Fighting Knights held onto this lead the rest of the game with Becca Clark leading with four goals.

Flagler put up a good fight tying the first quarter at three thanks to a goal from Sydney Onega and two from Tristan Usher.

Although the Saints fell short Tristan Usher managed to score three goals to lead Flagler’s offense.

Saints goalie Lauren Ribadeniera held down the defensive end of the game with 11 saves and three ground balls. Carly LaFerriere also stood out with four draw controls, a ground ball, and caused a turnover.

Elizabeth Tamasitis added three goals and two assists for the Fighting Knights. Calista Elica recorded six saves.

The Saints will return tomorrow at noon to kick off Gulf South Conference competition as well as celebrate “Senior Day” in a home game against Shorter University.
