Tampa Women: #7 Spartans Win in Dazzling Fashion Against Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 7 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team secures their first win of the season in dazzling fashion against Montevallo.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: Tampa 19, Montevallo 4

Records: No.7 University of Tampa Spartans (1-0), University of Montevallo Falcons (1-1)

Location: Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium | Montevallo, Ala.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The game opened with two early unanswered goals from Julia Kolderman and Sophi Wrisk. After Tampa’s third consecutive goal, Montevallo calls a timeout. This timeout didn’t stop Tampa’s momentum and they scored three more goals out of the timeout. Montevallo ended up sneaking one goal in, but Tampa kept punching the ball in the back of the net ending the quarter on top. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

13:21 – Julia Kolderman, unasssisted

12:40 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

9:22 – Gia Colombo, assisted by Sarah Hinkle

8:16 – Gracie Colombo, unassisted

6:50 – Julia Kolderman, assisted by Olivia Mott

5:23 – Julia Kolderman, assisted by Sarah Hinkle

2:03 – Gracie Colombo, unassisted

0:46 – Olivia Mott, assisted by Gia Colombo

Score: 8-1 (Tampa)

Second Quarter: The second quarter opened with another pair of goals being scored by Sarah Hinkle and Julia Kolderman. Tampa remained aggressive for the entire second quarter extending their lead little by little. Montevallo ended up sneaking another goal in to close out the second quarter. The Spartan goals headed into halftime were scored as follows:

12:03 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont

11:19 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

6:52 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

5:03 – Brynn Nestor, unassisted

Score: 12-2 (Tampa)

Third Quarter: The third quarter opened with Montevallo starting the scoring. From there, Tampa responded back with two goals of their own. Montevallo then scored another goal to cut Tampa’s lead to 10. After Montevallo’s goal, the intensity of the game increased but Tampa rose up to the occasion and scored two more goals before the end of the quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

12:58 – Cece Colombo, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont

11:15 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont

4:27 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Olivia Mott

2:12 – Riley McGettigan, assisted by Olivia Mott

Score: 16-4 (Tampa)

Fourth Quarter: The last quarter opened with strong defense being played by both teams resulting in a scoring drought for majority of the quarter. The drought was broken by Tampa after a goal from Madeline Eckstein. Tampa then kept adding to their lead beating Montevallo by 15. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

7:03 – Madeline Eckstein, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont

3:13 – Kayla Brennan, unassisted

1:47 – Sarah Hinkle, unassisted

Final: 19-4 (Tampa)
