Tepel breaks record in No. 11 Saints victory

ST AUGUSTINE – Carley Tepel scored a program-record nine goals this afternoon for No.11 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College in a 23-11 win over Gulf South Conference opponent Lander University at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
 
The Saints now advance to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in GSC play. Lander drops to 5-6 for the season and 1-1 in the conference.
 
The Saints came out hot with Madison Daziel scoring the first goal of the game in 40 seconds. The Saints garnered a four-goal lead before hearing from the Bearcats.
 
The Saints lead continued to grow throughout the first half with Carly LaFerriere, Tepel and Virginia Fischer scoring three consecutive goals to finish the first half, 13-4.
 
The Bearcats fought hard with Emmy Peterson leading the team with five goals.
 
The Saints defense also stood out with Claudia Tanksley winning nine draw controls and LaFerriere winning seven. Katelyn Trainor also stood out with four draw controls, two caused turnovers, a groundball, and an assist.
 
Saints goalie Lauren Ribadeniera made nine saves. Bearcats goalie Kara Krusbe made 10 saves today.
 
The Saints will return on April 6 at noon for a GSC matchup at the University on Montevallo.
