The Gulf Coast Coaching Upheaval Continues; Jesuit’s Charlie Cummins is Stepping Down from the Head Coaching Position, Will Remain with the Staff

Following Derek Wagner’s surprise exit from Cardinal Mooney, another successful high school coach in the Tampa/Sarasota area has decided to step down from his coaching position, and I received this:

“After five incredible years leading the Jesuit High School of Tampa varsity lacrosse team, I am announcing my decision to step down as head coach. Since taking on this role in the summer of 2019, it has been a blessing to work with such talented and dedicated administration, parents, and athletes.

As I prepare for significant changes in my personal and professional life, I find that I no longer have the time required to lead the team as head coach. This decision was not made lightly, but I am confident it is the best choice for both myself and the program.

I do plan to stay involved with Jesuit High School as the defensive coordinator. Additionally, I will be part of the interview process to help select the new head coach, ensuring a smooth transition and continued success for the team.

I am grateful for the support and understanding from the Jesuit High School administration, parents, and athletes during this time. I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and achievements of the Jesuit lacrosse program.”
