via JU press release   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – International lacrosse is coming to Jacksonville University! D.B. Milne Field serves as the site of the 2018 Brogden Cup, an annual three day lacrosse series designed to promote international fellowship between the United States and Canada through the sport of lacrosse, from December 27-29. Featuring athletes from the U19 boys and U17 girls levels, budding international lacrosse athletes have the opportunity to experience international field lacrosse competition at the highest level outside of the FIL World Games, which occur every four years. Organized by LEGACY Global Sports, the Brogden Cup was founded in the 1990’s and is named after H. McCullough Brogden. Brogden played at Johns Hopkins in the early 1930s and represented the United States at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, though lacrosse was a demonstration sport during the 1932 Summer Games. Stated LEGACY Global Lacrosse Director Joel Franklin, “We chose Jacksonville University because they are lacrosse in Florida with the only Division I men’s and women’s teams, and each with a strong history with athletes from Canada and internationals. The staff at JU has been super to work with and we appreciate being in one of the top lacrosse facilities in the country in D.B. Milne Field. The Davis College of Business is beautiful and we are thrilled to be in that facility too. We see the plans for lacrosse here at JU and they are big-time visions.” Players representing the United States qualified for selection by competing in the USSSA Lacrosse Classic this past summer, while Team Ontario, a provincial team featuring the top players selected from tryouts conducted by the Ontario Lacrosse Association, represents Canada. Played in conjunction with the Brogden Cup, friendly competition between the top U15 boys from Canada and the United States will face off, along with exhibition games between local high school and youth players from the state of Florida against teams from the United States and Canada. “This is my 14th year running the Brogden Cup,” added Franklin. “This event brings together the two strongest nations in a friendly that showcases North American lacrosse. I’m sure our teams from Canada and Rochester are thankful for some Florida weather this time of year. The true story is that of international sportsmanship and lacrosse bonding.
