These two teams rosters are filled with some of the top lacrosse talent in the Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens area. Many of these players are sure to continue to play into their high school years and be significant contributors to their respective future teams. As a result of this talent, this was a well played and hard fought game which yielded a surprising result as the Lions came away with a 9-4 victory. The Mariners got off to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter as they were winning the early faceoff battle behind Gavin Meyers. But the Lions took momentum in the second quarter behind a dominating performance by Ford Cash. Cash was able to turn the faceoffs into quick scoring opportunities for several of his goals. The Lions took the lead for good and dominated the time of possession which did not allow for the Mariners to get into a consistent offense. The second half showcased a more balanced possession between the teams with the Mariners defense able to contain Cash, but their offense could not overcome the four goal halftime deficit as the Lions’s Jackson Lynch was stopping shots and efficiently clearing the ball and not allowing the Mariners to get into any sort of offensive rhythm.     Both programs have several games remaining on their schedule. Hopefully, they can avoid any Covid issues and play without interruptions. Hats off to the parent volunteers and school administrators in doing all they can in safely allowing the boys to play the sport they love. Grateful to see middle school lacrosse alive and well even in the middle of the pandemic. Here are comments from the coaches: Paul Rasmus (JMLC): We want to thank St Marks for hosting our Jupiter Mariners Lacrosse Club. They have a great team and Ford Cash was simply unstoppable today. For the Mariners, Gavin Meyers had two goals. Dustin Sluszka and Landon Rasmus each had a goal. David Druhot had an assist. Joe Desantis and Dylan Creps led the Mariner defense.     Bobby Hogan (SM) We came into this game just hoping to be competitive against a solid JMLC team. After going down 0-2 early, something clicked in our faceoff middie, Ford Cash. He is relatively inexperienced in lacrosse, but that is more than made up for in his amazing foot speed and powerful shot. Matthew Null and Thomas Godino scored the other 2 goals at attack, and with the help of Brady Bowers and Jensen Carlstrom, they really helped give our middies a rest by controlling the ball on offense. Campbell Hogan, Michael Melby and Dillon Hoban were huge contributors on both sides of the field at middie. Our defense was led by Jackson Lynch in goal, who not only made a ton of saves, but he consistently made great decisions in clearing the ball. Lynch is arguably the best 8th grade goalie in the state, so his huge presence in goal is intimidating to say the least. Our D poles (Jake Ivancevic, Jake Homberger, Ian Bowden and Liam Guzzanti) also contributed greatly in holding JMLC to only 4 goals. Again, it was a surprising win, and I really enjoyed the way St Marks remained positive early on and were humble in victory.  Thank you to coaches Trace Hogan and Johnny Lynch for their assistance!
