This Week’s Musings – Jacob Webb Jr. with GREAT NEWS! Saxton Dunlap Needs All Hands On Deck.

We’ll start with an update on Saxton Dunlap, as he is searching for a stem cell/bone marrow donor and we will put that article up this weekend. And while his journey is just starting, we have GREAT NEWS on Jacob Webb Jr.!  That is going up today too. On Wednesday and Thursday this week I was up in Vero Beach for the Prospects Games, which due to the CCP’s virus, was cut back quite a lot from the original event, which was a major showcase combined with club events for the high schools. The weather was better than the past weekend in the same location and the high school division, although down to 12 teams, was packed with top talent.  Ponte Vedra, Benjamin, Lake Highland, Berkeley Prep, St. Thomas Aquinas, Western, Bishop Moore, Nease, Montverde, etc.  And plenty of top players from the Class of 2020, which truly is packed with impact kids! The 2020 Class is LOADED with college recruits, as this link to it in the Inside Lacrosse database indicates:  LINK Really, too many to list here but in my experience this is clearly the deepest pool of talent we’ve ever had in one class and that makes the truncation of the season even more painful to contemplate.  Over the next 4 years we will certainly see a number of our kids playing significant roles on their college rosters!     The finals on Thursday matched Benjamin versus Ponte Vedra and this was NOT your typical summer club final.  Easily the best club game I’ve been fortunate to witness and it came down to an OT and Benjamin came away with the win.  What hit home so much for me was the after-game.  Parents and coaches giving their kids their due.  Seniors being singled out for their contributions.  For the Ponte Vedra kids the granting of status, as the class that will be the measuring stick for future PV teams and classes to look at.  I didn’t catch as much of the Benjamin side right afterward but spent time with Coach Cordrey after the game and during the All-Star game and it was the first time I really could spend time talking to him and you could see the same feeling through him.     I believe the Orlando event this coming week allows graduating seniors too, but with the FSLCA All-Star game on Friday night (that will be covered separately this week) and this past event I suspect that there will be some kids who have already played their last high school game for their own program. I’ll also cover separately Oak Hall’s Andrew Jimenez, who received some nice publicity at the Inside Lacrosse Invitationals this past week.  Andrew posted 5 assists in one game there! LSN carried a lengthy interview with Caitlyn Wurzburger back on May 6th, I’ll put up that link today.  Caitlyn moves on to UNC as the ALL TIME LEADING POINT PRODUCER in High School lacrosse histroy, male or femae!
