UF Women: Madison Waters Joins Gators as Transfer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida women’s lacrosse team officially announced the addition of midfielder Madison Waters to the program as a transfer on Tuesday.  

The rising junior comes to the Gators from the University of Southern California, where she spent her first two collegiate seasons.

The 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Waters hails from Bayport, N.Y. and saw action in all 32 games for the Trojans during her two seasons, including 19 starts.

Sophomore Season (2022)

  • Played in all 16 games for the Trojans with 11 starts during her sophomore campaign
  • Scored a career-high five goals against Stanford on April 10
  • Posted a career-best three caused turnovers against Cal on April 8
  • Ranked sixth on the team in points, goals and caused turnovers
  • Finished the season with 23 goals, two assists, 16 groundballs, 12 caused turnovers, seven draw controls and a .455 shooting percentage

Freshman Season (2021)

  • Pac-12 Freshman of the Year
  • Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team
  • Played in all 16 games with eight starts
  • Scored 22 goals and had three assists for 25 points
  • Ranked third on the team in ground balls (22) and fifth in caused turnovers (13)
  • Ranked fourth on the team in goals (22) and points (25)
  • Scored in all but four games and had multiple goals in six contests
  • Recorded three hat tricks with a career-high four goals against California (Apr. 16)
  • Scored the game-winning goal against Oregon (Mar. 28) 
  • Finished with a .458 shooting percentage and a .750 shots-on-goal percentage

Prior to Florida

  • Five-year letterwinner and two-time team captain at Bayport Blue-Point HS under head coach Ryan Gick
  • U.S. Lacrosse All-America third-team selection
  • Four-time Under Armour All-American Long Island Selection
  • Invited to the U.S. Lacrosse U19 tryout
  • Three-time All-Suffolk County selection
  • 2020 Inside Lacrosse/ILWomen Power 100 Incoming Freshman
  • Led BBPHS to the 2019 Suffolk County Championship
  • Also lettered in track and field and soccer for four years as a two-time soccer team captain and two-time All-Suffolk County choice
  • Played eight years of club lacrosse for the Long Island Yellow Jackets and helped lead the team to a national title
  • Parents are Dennis and Megan Waters
  • Father Dennis ran track and field and cross country at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1991-95)
  • Has a younger brother named Brendan

Waters – along with the group of eight newcomers who signed their NLIs in the fall – will comprise Florida’s incoming class of 2023.
