Congratulations to Gina on her college commitment and good luck in the future!
Vero Beach High School
Eastern Michigan University
Why did you choose this college?
I chose Eastern Michigan because it gives me the chance to study neuroscience and play lacrosse at the highest level. Also, it offered me the unique opportunity to help build this program from the ground up. Coach Alicia Groveston Jackson and Coach Allison Lane truly care about the success of their players on and off the field.
What Advice Would You Give Those Starting the Recruiting Process?
My advice is to be bold! Coaches get a lot of emails from recruits so make sure you sell yourself. Don’t be shy to tell college coaches about all of the hard work you’re doing in order to be great. They want to know about and see all the work you’re doing outside of practice.
Who Would You Like to Thank for Getting You to Here?
First, I would like to thank my two biggest supporters, my parents. Without their love and support, none of this would be possible. I would also like to thank coaches Jon Weiner, Scott Wainman, and John McClain for guiding me through this recruiting process and pushing me to become a better player. Lastly, I would like to thank my trainers at Barwis Methods, Bryan and Antonyo for pushing me to my limits and helping me become the athlete I am today.
What are your first memories of the sport?
My first memory of playing lacrosse is at a clinic when I won $20 for running down the field faster than people passing the ball down the field.
What is Your Favorite Memory From Your High School Career?
Becoming team captain on varsity when I was only a freshman.
What is Your Stick Brand? And Why?
My stick brand is Epoch because it is lightweight and the pocket is very secure.
Which Lacrosse Player Do You Most Want to Have a Meal With and Why?
Definitely Meg Douty. She is a smart, gritty defender. I would love to learn about how she trains.
Do You Watch College & Pro Games and What Are You Watching for to Make You a Better Player?
Yes! I am watching how the defenders are forcing turnovers, looking at how the defenders are positioned on and off-ball, and watching when the defenders start pressuring the ball.
What’s Your Go-To Meal After a Game?
Chipotle! I have so many memories of going there with my friends after games.
What’s the One Thing Your Teammates Would be Surprised to Know About You?
I am really open with my teammates but they would be surprised to know that I am really good at basketball! Go Miami Heat!
