2014 FHSAA Season Preview! “The Central -North” Bracket Districts 11&12

See District 1&2 See District 3&4 See District 5&6 See District 7&8 See District 9&10 The Central-North Bracket features Districts 9 – 16.  This bracket is going to be very interesting for two reasons.  One, as always, it features two of the state’s top programs in Lake Highland Prep and Lake Brantley.  But the addition of the Tampa area teams brings a solid element of the unknown.  Longtime readers of the site will remember the transition of the South Florida clubs into the FHSAA.  Both Jupiter and Benjamin did quite well right out of the box.  Now we are looking for teams like Wharton and Plant to give last year’s Tampa area powerhouse, Tampa Jesuit, a solid run.  But nobody really knows until they take the field. District 11

Lake Highland Prep is certainly planning on coming out of District 11 and making their push to defend their state championship title.  They will continue to be strong defensively with Adam Sawicki (Lehigh) in the goal.  He is one of the best and most exciting players it the state.  Dylan Farwell (Babson) will lead an experienced group of defensmen that includes Christian Englehart, Jacob Brantley-Head, and Griff Caligiuri. Max Parker (Syracuse) arguably the states top face off specialist will tilt the possessions in their favor.  Standout middies junior middie Don Eidson (Delaware), seniors Will Wolfson, and Ben Prizer will comprise a midfield line that is going to be hard to stop. Of course you can bet that if it’s the start of the high school lacrosse season people are questioning Lake Highland’s attack.  It’s always at the beginning of the season, never at the end.  It goes all the way back to George Proechel i2009. How will they replace
Senior Middie Charlie Moran will be pivotal in a sure to be high scoring BMC offense

George?  Will Rotatori and Morgan Clark stepped up.  Then it was Austin Tamayo followed by Billy Roll and Clay Phillips.  This year it will be Kyle Richbourg.  This kid is no rookie.  He played well all season and then scored a big time goal in a big time game in the State Championship game and will do it a bunch this year too.  Conner Aniello will join him on attack and although the attack unit may be a questions mark right now, Lake Highland, historically, has been able  answer. Bishop Moore and Winter Park will battle to see who has the chance to play “Giant Killer” in the district championship game.  After losing 14 players from last year’s roster, Winter Park will be looking to build maturity and experience early.  Fall practices and games have shown a more disciplined team that appears to understand the level of work and commitment that it takes to be successful. Coach Healey, “I have been impressed with a lot of pieces and the guys who understand their role. Guys like Senior and IB student, Billy Bradimarte has put in hard work and improved greatly.”

Junior and second year starter at  Thatcher Clark can play attack and middie.  He looks to be the go to guy on offense. Clark was a weapon last year totaling 57 points on a senior laden team. The midfield will be led by junior two sport star (football) and returning starter Elliott Hammond.  Hammond is a “blue collar” guy who can dominate transition and create opportunity from the midfield. The Defense will be led by Senior and two year starter Jack Boudet. Jack has a motor that never quits and has the potential to be a great on-field leader. The goalie race looks to be a battle between Senior Teddy Jungeris (Stanford) and Sophomore Nick Beattie. Both have shown flashes of brilliance and it will come down to who takes leadership of a young defense. Coach Healey, “I believe that our district is the toughest in the state. I have nothing but respect for what Coach Spaulding has done at LHP, and have been extremely impressed with Coach Reynolds and his passion for the game both as a player at WO and now giving back at BMCHS. I believe that the obvious favorite would be LHP.”

Bishop Moore will have a solid offense this year with good midfield depth including Seniors Charlie Moran, Justin Burt, and Harry Stecher.   Attackmen Gary Bitz, James Duhon and Evan Kachris will be a strong, balanced unit.   Sean Toor and Vince Falbo will be anchoring a young defense. The Hornets will be playing West Orange in Wounded Warrior Project Tourney on April 12th hosted by The First Academy.  New head coach Reed Reynolds (from Buchholz) agrees that this is a tough district, “ … could be strongest in Orlando (one of the strongest in the state), District 23 will probably be a strong district as well.” Edgewater has a new coach and a new attitude this season.  Coach Ben Hjelle knows he’s in a deep district but he and his star player, Connor Fields, will look to get something going for the Eagles.  They look to improve on a 4-12 season last year. District 12 This district is going to come down to two very evenly match teams. Boone and Timber Creek will produce a couple of very exciting games this season. Timber Creek will have a much bigger, faster, and more athletic group than last year. Senior, Bruce Preeschl is a big fast middie who is tough to stop from the top.  He will team up with Brock St. John and Joe Cassata to form a very athletic midfield unit. Senior Mike McAllister will be leading a quick and talented attack trio which also features junior Steven Torres and sophomore Nate Gillan. The defense will be anchored by seniors Cameron Hixenbaugh, Brody Sauers, and Dakota Ortiz.  Along with LSM sophomore Evan Walker this unit can cause turnovers and push transition. Boone High School is going to make a hard run at this district championship.  They will be tough to score on with junior Joe Kissick in the goal.  He works angles very well and really sees the ball coming out of the stick.  He seems to consistently be in position to make the save.  Senior defenseman Brock Dwyer will lead a good defensive unit in front of him  Brad Connolley, senior attackman will be leading the offense.  Senior middie Kyle Irwin is a solid two-way middie. When asked about the district Head Coach Elliott Whitten said, “Timber Creek will be the team to beat. They have a great tradition, great coaches, and a talented team. UHS also has young and upcoming program too.” Look for Boone to break out some green uniforms as they bring back a St. Patrick’s Day game against Dr. Phillips this year. University High School has been working hard to get ready to compete in this district in 2014.  The have a good senior defender in Anthony Galarza  Junior middie, Maximus McRae is fast two-way player and senior attackmen Conner Astacio, and Jean Alcedo move to ball well and can finish. Second year coach, Andrew Hochheimer says, “I have a team full of great athletes who are willing to give it their all every day so we are very excited for the season this year. East River and Colonial will round out this district.
