GARY FUCHS  (pictured on the right side above) Truly Great Contributor    Midfielder   South Florida Accomplishments:   Gary has been a resident of Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) Florida since 1972 and a business owner in Fort Lauderdale, since 1975.  He has been involved in lacrosse in South Florida for the last 40 years.  He started his lacrosse career playing for Miami Men’s Club in 1974 and played 1 year for them.  In 1975 he was one of the founding members of the Fort Lauderdale Men’s Team.  We started the team with 14 players and went 0-14 in the first year.  He played middie for 29 straight years for Fort Lauderdale, and retired in 2004.   While playing with Fort Lauderdale, they won 9 state championships.  He was awarded the Hustler of the Year Award, 8 years straight, and was honored with the Hustler of the Year Award, being named after him.  The Gary Fuchs Hustler Award is given out every year for Fort Lauderdale.  During his career with Fort Lauderdale, and continuing after Fort Lauderdale, he played with Team Florida, tournament team, which played in Vail, Lake Placid, and the Fort Lauderdale Classic, for many years. While playing for Fort Lauderdale, he was elected to the Florida Lacrosse League All Star Team for 8 years.   As a Coach, he began coaching youth in the 70’s with our Head Coach of Fort Lauderdale Men’s Lacrosse, Hugh Laubheimer, at Pine Crest Fort Lauderdale.  He has also, throughout the years assisted many different coaches in High School, Gibbons and Pine Crest, and Youth Leagues, including the YMCA of Fort Lauderdale.  He started Head Coaching Youth Lacrosse, at Boca Jets in 2006.  Gary has coached from Bantam division all the way up to presently coaching boys U-15.   Gary also became the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Calvary Christian Academy Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team in Fort Lauderdale in 2012 till present.  He also helped start the Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team at Calvary Christian which is now in their second year.  He has been a member of the US Lacrosse for approximately 16 years.  Presently on the Board of Directors of the Florida Lacrosse Classic Tournament, this is a fundraiser for the Florida Youth Lacrosse Foundation, which Gary is also a Board Member/ Director.  Gary has been a member of both organizations since 2008.   Congratulations to Gary Fuchs for his induction into the South Florida Chapter Hall of Fame!
