#3 Gators Wrap Up Spring Break Road Trip With Loyola

via press release – photo via UF web site   Baltimore, Md. – The University of Florida women’s lacrosse team (3-1) will finish a three game road stretch on Wednesday afternoon, with a matchup against the Loyola Greyhounds (0-4). The opening draw is set for 1 P.M. from the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Md. Florida and Loyola will be meeting for the fifth time overall, and just the second time in Baltimore. Last season, the Gators won a 15-6 decision over the Greyhounds in Gainesville. No. 3 Florida enters Wednesday’s contest on a three-game win streak, after defeating No. 16 Towson in freezing temperatures on March 5. The Gators used a 13-8 advantage in the draw circle and a program-record 47 shots to beat their second ranked opponent in the past three games. Senior attacker Sammi Burgess set a career-high with seven points (three goals, four assists), and was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week for her efforts. Loyola has dropped its first four games of the season, all against ranked opponents, by seven goals or fewer. Senior attacker Cami Whiteford (10g, 2a) and sophomore goalkeeper Kady Glynn (20 saves, .385) lead the Greyhounds. Sideline Ties First year Florida assistant coach Taryn VanThof was a three-time IWLCA All-American midfielder at Loyola from 2013-2015. Her younger sister, Taylor, is currently a sophomore at Loyola, and leads the Greyhounds with 21 draw controls. Head Coach Amanda O’Leary: “Loyola has played a tough schedule to start the season. They are a dangerous team with many strong attackers. We will need to compete on the draw and focus on those 50/50 ground balls.
