A Mea Culpa!! 1989 Also Saw History!

On both our latest two podcasts and in the recap of the Boca Raton – Saint Andrew’s game Wells Dusenbury (should I throw Wells under the bus on this one? Nah.) and I made note that before Tuesday’s game Saint Andrew’s had never lost a game against a Palm Beach County team. In an era when the schools did not have organized districts it turns out that, YES, it did happen one time before!
Thanks to Andy Bolger, the Head Coach of Pope John Paul II for passing on to us the newspaper clip posted above.
Andy wrote to me the following:
“I am not sure if anyone else beat them…Casey Wilson is the AD over at Gulfstream and was on that Pope team and Brian Gallagher was the goalie on that Pope team that beat SA and he helps coach the JV team at Pope…that is the only reason I had access to the article – Brian had saved all the clippings from his HS years and brought them in for the kids to see.”
Perhaps Casey and Brian will reach out to us and provide some memories of that game to us!
Of course, one of the remarkable things from this clipping is that it was the SAME SCORE as Tuesday’s game!
According to Andy, SA reversed the result and won 6-5 in TRIPLE OVERTIME in the playoffs (there were no Districts).
Thanks to Andy and Brian for providing this priceless piece of local lacrosse history!
