Andrew Sapashe Scores 7 to Lead Winter Park Past Bishop Moore

Turnovers, penalties, and Andrew Sapashe doomed the Bishop Moore Hornets last night in the District 11 semi final. The first five minutes looked like the evening would be all Bishop Moore as they scored on two of their first three shots, all from close range as they showed good patient offense and worked the ball in tight.  Evan Kachris drew a slashing call on the first goal of the night and the Hornets had the Winter Park defense on their heels for much of the first quarter. With 4:34 left in the first, however, Andrew Sapache went to work.  He picked up a GB that had rebounded off the post and put it away to get the Wildcats on the board and came back just over a minute later and scored his second in transition. The final two and a half minutes of the first quarter saw three more goals, one by BMC and the other from Winter Park including a shot for the hat trick by Sapashe from the left alley that finished in the top right corner. The first quarter ended with Winter Park holding a one goal lead. The second quarter was all Winter Park as they scored on five consecutive shots.  Evan Kachris scored the lone second quarter goal for Bishop Moore on a great underhand low to high shot on an EMO opportunity.   But by halftime the damage was done and Winter Park had a 9-4 lead.  Sapashe had the hat trick, Thatcher Clark added two of his own while Burns Cullen and Alex Greer scored one each.  Kachris had scored twice for Bishop Moore. Gary Bitz and Will Stricker scored the other two. Winter Park continued what would be a six goal run into the third quarter stretching it out to a 12-4 lead before Cory Castille was able to stop the bleeding and get Bishop Moore another goal.  The Wildcats would respond with another five goal run.  The Hornets found some life and outscored Winter Park five to one in the fourth quarter but it was way too late to make it all the way back and Winter Park won the game 18-10. In addition to Sapashe’s 7 goals, Thatcher Clark scored four goals, Alex Greer and Bishop Estes scored twice each, and Ryan Hill, Thomas Francis, and Burns Cullen each had one. Evan Kachris scored a hat trick for Bishop Moore in another great effort from him.  Will Stricker scored twice as did James Duhon. Mathew Mottern, Cory Castille, and Gary Bitz each added one goal each. Lake Highland ran past Edgewater in the other District 11 semi-final by a score of 19-2 and will face Winter Park in the final on Thursday.
