Apopka High School’s senior goalie, Austin DeGross, has committed to Missouri Valley College. Austin plays club lacrosse for the Apopka Lacrosse Club.
MVC Head Coach Kevin Totaro said, “We are pleased that Austin made a commitment to Missouri Valley after looking at several schools and then coming up and working out with us.” The current goalie coach at MVC, Michael Burgos, was formerly an assistant coach at Lake Brantley High School and was familiar with DeGross.
Missouri Valley is a fully funded NAIA program. Because NAIA had not officially recognized lacrosse until this year they have played an MCLA Schedule and have played in the MCLA DII National Championship tournament each of the last two seasons. The Vikings are once again favored to win the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference again this season.
This season, as a transitional season, the team has the opportunity to play for both the MCLA and the NAIA Nationals Championships.
Austin has a 3.3 GPA and intends to major in Physical Therapy. “A big shout out to my goal tender coach James Foote, the University of Central Florida’s head men’s lacrosse coach and my high school coach Mike Frost. Also, thank you to my parents for always supporting me.”
