Ave Maria: Lady Gyrenes Hold Off Reinhardt, 11-10

via press release – photo via AM web site   Box Score WALESKA, Ga. — The Ave Maria women’s lacrosse team defeated Reinhardt 11-10 on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Gyrenes improve to 4-4 on the year with the win. The Blue and Green fell behind early, 3-1, with the lone goal by Mackenzie Tourville four minutes in before the Lady Gyrenes rallied off four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead into the half. During the run, Katelyn Sherman scored three goals while Georgia Miller found the back of the net once. Reinhardt scored to open the second half before goals by Tourville, Miller, Sarah Wade, and Diana Semegran made it 9-4 in favor of AMU. The two teams exchanged goals over the next few minutes with Sherman and Wade each netting another goal to put Ave Maria in front 11-6 with 15:25 to play. The Lady Gyrenes had to withstand a late rally by Reinhardt as the Eagles scored four quick goals to pull within one with 6:04 remaining. Bianca Ballarin made 18 saves in the win for AMU. Sherman led the Lady Gyrenes with four goals while Tourville, Wade, and Miller each had two goals apiece. Reinhardt held the advantage in shots, 34-22, and ground balls, 28-24. The two teams each had 11 draw controls.
