Barron Collier Rockets to Number Three in the FLN Coaches Poll

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The Top Ten Coaches Poll is brought to you by Team Florida this season.  Entering its 9th year, the Florida Elite Showcase has placed more players in top level college lacrosse programs than any other club travel team.  The Team Florida Summer Showcase will take place May 10-11 at it’s new home in Palm Coast this year.  Registration is now open.

Here are the results of our fourth weekly Coaches Poll and the differences with the Media Poll have narrowed substantially, as you would expect as the season starts to mature.  Seventeen teams received at least one Top 10 vote!  Good luck to the teams as the season goes on and thanks to the coaches who took the time to participate! Jupiter is beginning to look unstoppable and was the “high riser” in the StudendtSports FAB 50 poll gaining ten spots to come in a #35 in the nation this week.  They beat St. Andrews 11-3 and Lake Mary 11-4 and only Lake Highland has scored more than four on them this season when they put up ten on March 1.  There is still a long way to go but they look solid right now. Lake Highland moves from third to second place after Boca’s loss to Pope on Saturday.  The Highlanders also happen to be playing some of their best lacrosse right now.  The beat Winter Park 15-3 and looked great  against the nation’s top team in a 14-11 loss to Boys’ Latin. Barron Collier moves from number eight all the way to number three and is our biggest mover of the week.  They went up to  Jupiter and give them a big scare in a 4-3 loss but this week they proved that it was no fluke as they knocked off St. Thomas Aquinas. Our number four team this week is Ponte Vedra.  They have taken complete control of their district and won six straight games, none of which have been close.  However,  they haven’t played any top ten teams since the Boca game.  They have a solid run coming up with Creekside, Gulliver, Jupiter, and Hagerty. Boca lands at number five after the Pope loss.  They did beat St. Thomas Aquinas in a OT game three days earlier. St. Andrews came in at number six after a loss to Jupiter but a good showing against Gulliver Prep.  We’ll know everything there is to know about the 2014 Saint Andrews team after this next stretch of games.   Boys Latin, McDonogh, Kinkaid, LHP, and Lake Mary all in a row.
Jupiter looks tough to stop coming in at #1 in Florida and #35 in the nation

Lake Mary rolled over an out manned Winter Springs team and fell to Jupiter.  They look like they are solid this year but Jupiter is the only top ten team they have played so far.  We will see more about LM in April as their schedule really heats up. Lake Brantley held a top ten spot coming in at number eight. They lost to a surprising  Seminole team that is better then folks are giving them credit for. Lake Brantley gets into the meat of their schedule in the next few weeks. Benjamin stays in the top ten coming in at the number nice spot.  But they have played a tough schedule and are sure to be getting better on their MIAA road trip.  They have a week off and then come back against Jupiter.  They could be someone to watch out for down the stretch. Pope makes our top ten list on the strength of a huge upset victory over then #2 Boca.  They were victims of a big upset of their own last night so we’ll see how that effects the result of our next coaches poll but in the mean time- Congrats Eagles!
