Biondi, Jr., Named SSC Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week

MELBOURNE – For the third time this season and the second consecutive week, Florida Southern has had a player named as a Sunshine State Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Freshman midfielder Joseph Biondi, Jr., was named this week’s SSC Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week following his outstanding play in the face-off circle against Chestnut Hill.
Biondi, Jr., is the second Moccasin to earn Player of the Week honors from the SSC this season as junior goalie Matt Lalli has been named an SSC Defensive Player of the Week two times.
The Orange, Conn., native earns this week’s Specialist of the Week accolade after winning 17 of 24 face-offs (71 percent) and picking up 11 ground balls in the Moccasins’ 12-10 home win last Thursday against Chestnut Hill and extend its win streak to three in a row. The 17 face-off wins were the most by a Moccasin player this season.
On the season, Biondi, Jr., is 53-for-95 on face-offs and has a .558 winning percentage, which is 10th best in the SSC. In addition, his 53 face-off win is tied for second most in the SSC and he has also collected 21 ground balls in five games to help the Mocs open the season with a 5-2 record.
In addition to Biondi, Jr., Saint Leo senior attacker Dylan Yonts was named the SSC Player of the Week and Tampa junior goalie A.J. Arnold took home SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Biondi, Jr., and the Mocs return to action on Wednesday, March 9 as they host Wingate in a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Bryant Stadium.
