NEWS RELEASE: THE FLORIDA LAUNCH NAME TOM MARIANO AS HEAD COACH
BOCA RATON, FL- Florida Launch President Brian Clinton announced today the hiring of Tom Mariano as the team’s new head coach. Mariano has a remarkable history as a coach from the collegiate ranks to the professional level. He comes to the Launch from the Chesapeake Bayhawks where he served as an assistant coach.
“We are very excited to welcome Coach Mariano into the Launch family,” said President Brian Clinton. “Throughout this process we met with several extremely qualified candidates and Tom continued to separate himself from the pack as someone who understands what it takes to win at this level. There is no shortage of talent on our roster and with a leader like Tom, we will be able to compete with every team in this league.”
Mariano’s experience includes a 17 year run as head coach of the men’s lacrosse program at Sacred Heart University. During his stint with Sacred Heart, he earned NEC Coach of the Year honors after the team made the league playoffs for the first time. After leaving the Pioneers in 2013, he took on his current head coaching role at Pace University. As a player, he helped Nazareth College win a NCAA Division III National Championship.
“The better that the Launch are, the more the game will grow in Florida,” said Mariano. “We’re going to play fast, we’re going to play hard, and we’re going to put a product on the field that people will want to be a part of.”
Mariano will take on coaching duties immediately in preparation for the MLL Supplemental Draft on Dec. 14.
