Breaking: Launch D Evan Connell Suspended For One Game By MLL

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The Launch’s starting defenseman Evan Connell has been suspended for one game based on an incident during Saturday’s home game against Denver for a low hit on the Outlaw’s Matt Bocklet. League Director of Player Safety and Discipline Scott Hiller ruled Wednesday afternoon on the suspension.     While being interviewed on the Lax Sports Network, Hiller indicated that he felt the game film showed ‘a reckless play to a vulnerable position of a player’ and that he felt he had to send a message about the risk of injury in that situation.  Hiller also indicated that the referee report of the game, combined with the 8 minutes in penalties given on the field, also figured into his decision.  He also indicated that he could not see Bocklet throwing a punch, which might have led to Bocklet also facing disciplinary action. When asked by the LSN anchor if the suspension would have been granted if the number of minutes were less he indicated that in all likelihood he would have still slapped Connell with the suspension due to what he could see on the video. The Launch travel to Rochester this weekend.
