Author’s Note:  Rookie Alec Tullet scored less than 4 minutes into overtime to lead the Launch to a stunning come from behind win over the New York Lizards, sweeping the season series and raising the Launch’s record to 4-3.  The back and forth thrilling fourth quarter saw lead changes and each team scoring in the last 15 seconds of the game.  Last week it was the rookie middies of Nick Mariano and Sergio Salcido that led the comeback.  This week it was the rookie attack of Dylan Molloy and Ryan Drenner that accomplished that.  The depth of this team has substantially improved and the defense core of Tucker Durkin, Alec Tullet, Jarrod Neumann, PT Ricci and Tim Muller, combined with a terrific effort by Mike Unterstein, Tim Edwards and Mark McNeill at defensive middie, effectively shut down NY in the third quarter and early in the fourth, allowing the Launch to regain their composure and chip into the halftime lead, until tying the game up early in the fourth.  Atlanta comes to town next Saturday and the team will continue to look for momentum to build.
Here’s the Launch web site recap of the game: After a low-scoring first half, the Launch broke through a tired Lizards’ defense to sweep the rivals 15-14 in overtime. The Launch struggled to fight through an impermeable Lizards defense in the first half, with only three goals on the board at halftime. But, the Launch emerged with an untameable energy in the second half, scoring eleven goals in the second half and overcoming a late lead by the Lizards with three minutes left in the game. “You each just have to find your spot, see how you fit in. So, I think that’s what the transition period in the first half was, seeing how we play together and who fits where, just figuring that out. Then we really started figuring it out and let the game come to us,” said Dylan Molloy.
Launch rookies continued to make an impact, with the newest wave of Launch members playing integral roles in the sweep over New York. Molloy tallied an impressive four points (3G/1A) against New York, making quite the impact in his MLL debut. Towson University product Ryan Drenner also had an impressive showing, with a hat trick and game-tying goal with three seconds left in the game. In overtime, defenseman Alec Tulett tallied his first MLL goal to bring home the Launch win. “It’s awesome, I couldn’t ask for a better crew to come down and play my first game,” said Drenner. The Launch return to FAU Stadium on June 17 to play the Atlanta Blaze. For tickets, call 561-923-9067 or visit floridalaunchlacrosse.com/tickets.
