The Central Florida Lacrosse Academy (CFLA), led by Florida Southern Head Coach Marty Ward, has announced that it will host the first statewide Chumash lacrosse tournament. The one day event will be held on December 7, 2014 at the Cypress Youth Sports Complex in Lakeland, FL.
Three on three Chumash is a variation of lacrosse played with no long sticks or goalies. The goal is placed in the center of the field and modified to 1.5â x 6â with each team attempting to score on their respective side. âThe field layout may look different but the lacrosse action is the same. Players will learn to find the open space and move the ball,â said Coach Ward. CFLA has also added a 2 point shot line to add an exciting element to the traditional Chumash game.
The Florida Chumash Championships is open to Boys (U17, U15, U13, & U11) and girls (U17, U15, & U13). The event will feature pool play and playoff brackets with each team guaranteed a minimum of 3 games. CFLA has partnered with TourneyMachine to vegas blackjack online power the event management. All schedules, field assignments, and results will be posted online, allowing parents and fans to see results instantly from any computer or smartphone with the free tournament specific application.
CFLA hopes to grow the event as they believe that it reinforces fundamental lacrosse skills. âThe Chumash system develops the core skill sets of ball movement, off-ball cuts, and laser focused shooting,â noted Ward. Each team entered in the tournament will submit a roster of 3-7 players. Ward added that âThe small roster size allows players to get more on-ball time than in regular games as they are either on the ball or one pass away from the ball on either offense or defense.â
The event will be hosted at the new Cypress Youth Sports Complex featuring natural grass playing fields, clean rest room facilities, and ample parking. The complex is located just 1 mile off the Polk Parkway between Tampa and Orlando.
