SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head coach Mike Pressler is pleased to announce the addition of 12 student-athletes to the Bulldog men’s lacrosse roster for the 2013 season. The well-balanced Class of 2016 consists of four midfielders, three longstick midfielders, four defensemen and a goalie and hails from eight different states from different regions throughout the country. A trio of Connecticut natives in Tom Carey (New Canaan, Conn.), William Gould (New Canaan, Conn.) and Joe Marx (Fairfield, Conn.), two Bay Staters, Charles Everett (West Tisbury, Mass.) and Ryan Scheib (Holliston, Mass.), and a strong piece of homegrown talent in Smithfield, R.I.’s Cody O’Donnell make up the New England contingent, while two more rookies — Zack Micciche (Voorhees, N.J.) and Sean O’Keefe (Madison, N.J.) — hail from The Garden State. Virginia (Tyler Kemeny/Richmond), Florida (Jared Hebert/Tequesta), Colorado (Collins Gantz/Denver) and Arizona (Charles Hushek/Phoenix) each contribute one of its top players as well, as the Bulldogs look to defend their 2012 Northeast Conference Tournament title and earn the league’s first-ever automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. “For the first time in our tenure, we decided to introduce our freshman class after fall ball,” said Pressler. “After 17 practices, we now have a much better feel for the future of Bryant Lacrosse and how this rookie class fits in. “Our two objectives with this group were to add depth at both the midfield and longpole positions, and we have done just that with the Class of 2016,” he added. “We love our speed in the midfield and our overall size and athleticism at the defensive end, and we love the addition of a very promising goaltender who will allow us to continue the success we’ve enjoyed over the years in our transition game.” The 2013 campaign marks Bryant’s third as a full member of the Division I ranks and fifth with a full DI schedule. The NEC enters its third season sponsoring men’s lacrosse in 2012-13 and its first with an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. “Coming into practices this fall, we felt excitement about our freshman class,” said Pressler. “Today, with fall ball now behind us, we are even more excited about our first-year Bulldogs. With our fifth season at the Division I level upon us, and it’s nice to walk into the locker room and truly look the part.” Introducing the Bryant University men’s lacrosse 2012-13 newcomers: Jared Hebert / Defense / 6-3 / 170 / Tequesta, Fla.
