Columbus Catholic Routs Coral Shores 24-4

The Explorers of Columbus Catholic in Miami hosted the Coral Shores Hurricanes to start their 2014 season. The Explorers, who had thirteen different players score, never trailed in the game. Led by 3 goals apiece from Seniors Alec Carreras and Cody Brais, the Explorers also received scoring contribution from Seniors Danny Rancano (2), Sebi Cancio (2), Mike Perry (2), Frankie Suarez (2), Nick Quintairos (1), Michael Bulnes (1), Brandon Garcia (1), and Marty Lopez (1) and Juniors Nick Quesada (2), Kyle Glaser (2), and Alex “Cachi” Gonzalez (2). On defense, Seniors Brett Jacobs, Matt Larrea, Zach Garcia, and Josh Bazail along with Junior Alec Cancio led the way with strong, physical play. The defenders’ excellent performance paved the way to another strong showing by the goalie tandem of Senior Jeff Eskra (3 goals allowed, 5 saves) and Junior Jon Nickas (1 goal allowed, 3 saves). Their pinpoint clears led several fast breaks. Coral Shores was led by Danny Whitsead with 2 goals and physical play by Eddie Dunn. Columbus now shifts its focus to its upcoming matchup Monday February 24th at Miami Country Day.
