SSC Athletes of the Week: April 16 – 22
Kurtenbach scored six goals and tallied one assist for a seven-point week helping the Saint Leo Lions to the program’s first-ever SSC regular season title. Saint Leo closed the regular season 2-0 on the road at No. 7 University of Tampa (W, 10-9) and No. 13 Florida Tech (W, 16-13). Kurtenbach’s seven points were paired with three ground balls and a caused turnover. The junior attacker compiled a .545 shooting percentage while placing two-thirds of his shots on frame. Kurtenbach racked up five-points from four goals and one assist leading the Lions’ attack at Tampa. He then netted two more goals at Florida Tech.Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Tatarian’s work in the net allowed Saint Leo to clinch the program’s first-ever Sunshine State Conference regular-season title. Saint Leo defeated No. 7 University of Tampa (W, 10-9) and No. 13 Florida Tech (W, 16-13) last week. Tatarian recorded 22 saves while facing 82 shots., earning a .500 week save percentage. The junior tallied six saves at Tampa followed by a 16 save performance at Florida Tech.
Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Crawford earns Offensive Player of the Week accolades for her play in two conference games. Against Saint Leo University, Crawford netted a goal and had two assists in addition to picking up two ground balls. Then on Saturday against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Crawford broke program records for the most points scored in a single game (10) as well as the most assists scored in a single game (7). Tampa ended the week 2-0, defeating the Lions on Wednesday by a final score of 12-6, and then taking down the Eagles, Saturday by a final score of 23-8.Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Scudillo led Tampa’s defense across two SSC wins this week, beating the Saint Leo University (12-6) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (23-8). Scudillo caused two turnovers against the Lions and four against the Eagles. Also, against Embry-Riddle, Scudillo picked up five ground balls and won three draw controls for the Spartans.
JACKSONVILLE SWEEPS #ASUNWLAX WEEKLY AWARDS
LakePoint, Ga. – Sarah Elms and Genie Santapio swept the ASUN Conference Women’s Lacrosse weekly awards for Jacksonville, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Elms garners her second ever ASUN Player of the Week award after a career week for Jacksonville. Last week, she totaled 12 goals and three assists for 15 points in a 2-0 week for the Dolphins. Elms started her weekend with a six goal and three assist performance in a dominating 19-7 win over Mercer. She followed that up with another six goal game in a 23-8 win over Kennesaw State on Sunday. The win helped clinch at least a share of the ASUN title and the one seed in the ASUN Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Jacksonville’s Santarpio nabs her first career ASUN weekly award, after helping Jacksonville to a dominant defensive performance this past weekend. On Friday night, Santarpio collected four ground balls and caused three turnovers in a victory over Mercer. The following game she collected another four ground balls and a caused turnover in a win over Kennesaw State. For the weekend, Jacksonville yielded just 15 goals over two games thanks to the defensive effort from Santarpio.

– Ranks third in the ASUN in goals scored with 46, she is also 12th in assists with 13

ASUN Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week – April 24th

– Collected eight ground balls and five caused turnovers
– Scooped up four ground balls and and caused three turnovers in a victory over Mercer
– Tallied another four ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over Kennesaw State
– Jacksonville can clinch the regular season title outright on Sunday when they take on Stetson

TWO GATORS EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY RECOGNITION
NEW YORK – For the second consecutive week, the Gators earned two BIG EAST weekly honors as announced by the league office. Sophomore Cara Trombettaearned defensive player of the week honors while Shannon Kavanagh picked up freshman of the week honors.
Trombetta becomes the third consecutive Gator to be named the defensive player of the week by the BIG EAST after anchoring the Florida defense that has allowed a league-low 7.89 goals against this season. Trombetta had a stellar week on the road with five caused turnovers, four against Denver, and four ground balls. Against Cincinnati Trombetta and Florida held the Bearcats to just four goals. The defensive unit for the Gators limited both opponents to just 29-of-38 clear attempts and only allowed a total of 33 shots on goal. This is Trombetta’s first career defensive honor and second career BIG EAST honor.
For the second straight week, Kavanagh has been named the freshman of the week by the BIG EAST. Kavanagh continues her impressive freshman campaign for the Gators while getting it done on both sides of the ball. Over the weekend Kavanagh totaled nine points on five goals and four assists with 23 draw controls, six ground balls, and a caused turnover. Against Cincinnati Kavanagh tied her own single-game record of draw controls in a game with 12. On the year she has 73 draw controls which is the third-best freshman total in program history and sixth best overall mark at Florida. This is Kavanagh’s third career BIG EAST honor.
Junior Lindsey Ronbeck earned a spot on the weekly honor roll after scoring nine goals, including five against Denver, and totaling 10-points. Ronbeck also earned the game-winning goal in both games last week.
On the year Florida has earned 10 BIG EAST weekly awards and this marks just the third time all season the undefeated Gators have earned multiple weekly awards in a single week.
On Saturday Florida will honor its six seniors before the game as they close out the 2018 regular season. The Gators will host the Butler Bulldogs at noon with a chance to win the 2018 BIG EAST Regular season championship outright.
