The Creekside Knights brought home two more wins last week with a defeat of their district rival, Bartram on Tuesday, and another win Thursday against Bolles. The Knights are currently 12-2 for their season.
Thursday night after about six hours of consistent rain, the Knights hosted the Bolles Bulldogs at their stadium. The Bulldogs came out and scored first. However, the Knights, Julian Bonilla, scored as well. With 24 seconds left in the first quarter, Bolles scored, but Julian Bonilla scored again off an assist from Tim Vanderlinde just as the buzzer rang ending the first quarter making the score 2-2.
In the 2nd quarter, Bolles scored two more goals but the Knights answered back with four rapid goals. There is no doubt that the Bolles goalie, Johnny Harris, was the Bolles’ team foundation. He stopped a barrage of shots by the Knights which is the reason this game was only 6-4 in favor of the Knights at the half.
Similar to Tuesday’s game against the Bears, the Knights took the field after the half and defined the game by adding three more goals making it 9-4 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter however the Bulldogs refused to give up. The Knights defense had several key plays by Tim O’Brien but the Bulldogs came on strong capitalizing on some turnovers made by the Knights. Timmy Vanderlinde put up a score making the score 10-4, but the Bolles Bulldogs scored three goals in a row making it 10-7 with 4:09 left in the game.
With 2:59 left in the 4th Quarter, Bolles made the game 10-8. Bolles scored again with 0:43secs left in the game making it 10-9. There were several Bolles attempts made at goal with the Knights Goalie Conor Ryan making critical stops. As the buzzer rang, the Bulldogs took one final shot on goal that hit the outside of the net and left Creekside with their 12th win of the season with a final score of 10-9.
Head Coach, Jason Alford, stated, “the Bulldogs played hard and the score goes to show you that you have to play for 48minutes. Our plan going forward is to allow these hard-working young men to take a well-deserved break and we will get back to training next week as we prepare for a tough Oak Hall team.” The Knights host Oak Hall on Tuesday the 29th of March in the Knights Castle.
Of note: Julian Bonilla has been selected as First Coast News Athlete of the Week which is a great honor considering the number of schools and spring sports in the north Florida viewing area. Bonilla’s story will be aired next week. Creekside is very proud him and all their athletes.
