There is much excitement buzzing around the FSU program with the hiring of Jerry Delorenzo as the ‘Noles new Head Coach. The returning players are familiar with the former Goalie and Defensive Coach and say his knowledge of the game is beyond impressive. With a resume’ like Delorenzo’s, it’s easy to see why they have great respect for their new coach.   In the late 80’s, he attended Division Avenue High School in Levittown, NY where he was a 3 sport athlete, earning All American honors as a goalie.  In 1987, he was the captain of the Gold Medal Empire State Team and in 1988 he was selected as a member of the Gold Medal Team USA.   His college career was just as impressive at Syracuse, where he was part of the 1989 NCAA D1 Championship team.  He finished his senior year at Towson in 1992, earning the team’s MVP award. Delorenzo wants to get this FSU program back to National Championship caliber and he has the experience to do it.  He has coached several NCAA D2 programs including LIU Post (2012-2014) and NYIT (2008).  LIU  played in the National Championship game in 2014, falling to Limestone and NYIT won the National Championship title in 2008.  His MLL coaching resume’ includes the Long Island Lizards (2012), who made it to the semi-final playoffs and whose goalie, Drew Adams, won MLL Goalie of the Year.  With this type of coaching experience, FSU is confident that Delorenzo has the ability to take their program to the next level. Fall ball starts next month, and Delorenzo is eager to get things going as new head coach.  “The key difference in the program this year will be execution. Many teams in the country run similar offensive sets and defensive slide packages.  The difference between championship teams is they execute when it counts most. Our style of play will be one word – transition.  Our high pressure defense and experienced goaltending should provide ample opportunities to get the ball up field quickly.” The Seminoles return 6 starters from last season and have several recruits coming in that are expected to be impact players.  There are 15 games scheduled for the regular 2016 season including MCLA powerhouses Boston College, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
