JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a demanding fall schedule that included a matchup against the University of Florida, the Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team decided to take a small “break” to have some fun. This past weekend, Head Coach Mindy McCordand the Dolphins welcomed 12 alumnae to D.B. Milne Stadium for a friendly scrimmage in a match entitled the Alumni/ All-Star game.
A day full of smiles and reunions, Coach McCord decided to make things a bit more interesting by allowing every alum score in the first half to be worth two goals and granting two goals for any behind the back or around-the-world goals from the current JU roster. After sixty minutes of play, though the alum, which included Assistant Coach Sarah Gallion suited for action, amassed eight points, the current roster showed the crowd how excited they were for the upcoming season with 20 goals.
“It was wonderful to see our graduates in action again” said McCord. “It was great to catch up and share some fun memories with them at our tailgate and social. I am very proud of their accomplishments and setting the bar for our program so high.”
Freshman attacker Danielle Della Rocca and junior attacker Taylor McCord led the Dolphins in scoring as they combined for 7 goals and 10 other players chipped in a with score including three knocking in a pair of goals each.
The afternoon concluded with the unveiling of the team’s 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship ring. In celebration of earning the regular season and conference tournament championship for 3 years in a row, the team designed a large ring to highlight on one side the NCAA logo and the other side their victories.
This weekend the Dolphins are excited for Homecoming as they invite fans and parents to join them in their 2013 Atlantic Sun championship recognition during halftime of the Davidson vs. Jacksonville football game on Saturday, Oct 26. A Green- Gold scrimmage will begin at the end of the game and is set to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. at D.B. Milne Stadium.
