Doug Shanahan: Building The St. Brendan Program – 3/28/15

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
FLN has asked new Head Coach Doug Shanahan of St. Brendan High School in Miami to share his thoughts on how he is building his new program through their inaugural season.  We thank Doug for taking the time to do this and letting our readers experience this unique insight.    As the season is winding down, with 2 games to play, Atlantic Delray and a rematch at Coral Springs Charter, we are looking  for two more strong efforts. Some where along the line there has been a transformation in how we think as we play. The boys are understanding what it means to control the game by controlling time of possession. This ability still needs work, however it has been the biggest improvement of the team of late. Our last home game, versus LaSalle, saw us host our first ever Senior Night. We had a total of five seniors and their parents walk the “B” line as the rest of the team clapped them out.  This season has had a bit of everything, many expected and certainly many unexpected moments, even for an experienced staff.  When the seniors walked out with pride and smiles on their faces, I knew it had all been worth while and that we had accomplished something. Those boys are leaving stronger from having been active participants in the program, proving that sometimes it is not just the final score that counts!
