Doug Shanahan: Building The St. Brendan Program – 4/16/15

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
FLN has asked new Head Coach Doug Shanahan of St. Brendan High School in Miami to share his thoughts on how he is building his new program through their inaugural season.  We thank Doug for taking the time to do this and letting our readers experience this unique insight.  This is the last article of the season from Doug and we at FLN really appreciate Doug taking his time to let our readers get an insight into what his program experienced in the first year and we look forward to seeing how St. Brendan evolves over time!   With the first season in the books, and after collecting helmets and jerseys (always a headache!) to be packed away until next season, I am able to look back on many positive moments and an abundant amount of growth in both individuals and the team. I am already looking toward next year and am relaying the idea that the season really never ends. Giving the players a few weeks off is key, then starting up with Empire Lacrosse Club on April 28th which runs through late June, and then starts again in September. We are playing a serious game of catch up in the lacrosse community, and commitment needs to be two-sided to make the necessary gains to become competitive. Over the past 7 months taking kids at St. Brendan and making them into players has been a honor for me.  I look forward to further building the program. Go Sabres!
