District 10 is a five team district but this one will come down to a two team race. It’s Boone vs Timber Creek and Boone has had the better of this match up as of late.
In 2014 Timber Creek won the regular season match up and then jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead in the district championship. Since then, it’s been all Boone. Boone won an exciting 11-10 OT game during the regular season last year and then backed that up with another district championship winning 12-7.
Boone is looking for offense this year from Junior middie Tanner Woods. He has great speed and field awareness and should be able to make some plays with senior middie Luke Magley. Magley is an unselfish play maker. They should work with with Landon Markese, a solid junior attackman with excellent speed. Defensively look for three year starter and returning captain Mitch Capps, LSM, to have a great senior year. Landon Bosworth is an athletic defender who will draw the tough jobs this season. Long time head coach, Elliott Whitten, knows how to get his team playing their best lacrosse at the end of the season.
Timber Creek has a very fast, talented trio of attackmen in Nate Gillan, Preston Hopkins, and E.J. Wheeler. They always have solid ball movement and work well off the ball. Jake Sousa is a solid two way middie and will contribute at both ends of the field. Senior Brandon Brinkmeier and junior Braden Cassata are big, fast, defenseman that look to keep the pressure off of senior goalie Hunter Loper. Second year coach and Timber Creek alumnus, Trey Gordon is clear on the goal for his team this season. “My goal is for our team to win districts. Last year we fell short to Boone and I know both my players and myself want to win the district championship.”
Head Coach Andrew Hochheimer at University High School is one of the hardest working guys out there and has been making progress at University over the last couple of seasons. They still have a way to go to compete for this district but we think a winning record should be in store for the Cougars this year.
Lake Nona and East River round out this district. Both schools have suffered from a lack of youth feeder programs. We expect to have announcements soon about a new youth program serving the Lake Nona district.
